March Discussion - "Let's Pretend This Never Happened" by Jenny Lawson

After the lengthy book and weighty topics covered in February's selection, we've decided to choose a light-hearted book with Jenny Lawson's (Mostly True) Memoir Let's Pretend This Never Happened. Lawson writes the heavily-followed blog The Bloggess, and with nearly 1,800 reviews on Amazon and an average rating of 4.3 stars, this book looks like it's a well-loved favorite.

Here's the description from Amazon: "When Jenny Lawson was little, all she ever wanted was to fit in. That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father and a morbidly eccentric childhood. It did, however, open up an opportunity for Lawson to find the humor in the strange shame-spiral that is her life, and we are all the better for it.

In the irreverent Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives."

I am so bummed that I missed the meeting for the book I recommended! I feel like a total idiot! I am so sorry - just back from traveling for 2 weeks and just totally spaced it until I remembered after 2:30pm today. I hope you all had fun and see you next month!

It only took a couple of days to read. I laughed out loud in public and nearly peed my pants. I can't wait to discuss this one. Oh, guess what... I was reading her blog and we have the same birthday, how cool is that?
