47-mile Cross Triangle Greenway Ride

47-mile Cross Triangle Greenway Ride

Details can be found at : http://www.crosstrianglegreenway.org/
Registration: http://ecgtriangleride2013.eventbrite.com/

Friday, October 25th – Cross Triangle Bike ride at noon

A 47-mile cross triangle ride from Durham to Raleigh on the East Coast Greenway. Thanks to great recent greenway progress, over 90% of the ride will be off-road! Two rest stops will be provided plus a reception at the end. An 18-mile option, starting at Godbold Park in Cary, is also available.

Detailed ride schedule:
10:15am – For those interested, a shuttle will take riders from Raleigh to the Durham start. Pick will be at the Nature Research Center at NC Museum of Science (121 W Jones St, Raleigh, NC 27601)
11am Check-in starts at American Tobacco’s Diamond View Park in downtown Durham
11:30am – Welcome speakers
12:00 – Main ride begins from American Tobacco Campus

First rest area: White Oak Church Rd
Second rest area: Godbold Park, Cary

*Note*: For those not doing the full ride, the other option is to start at the 2nd rest area at Godbold Park. We will check those riders in as well. Riders should arrive at 2:30pm.

Most of the route is paved though some stretches are packed stone dust (so most people can enjoy the ride on wider road or hybrid tires). Don’t expect to average high speeds, as we’ll need to respect walkers, runners, and other greenway users that Friday. This is a group ride (not a race!) and will not be timed.

Can I catch a ride with somebody from Raleigh back to AmTob after the ride ???

    October 22, 2013

    • Fred

Thanks Dana... I'll chip in some gas (or is it battery???) money.

    October 25, 2013

  • Ed W.

Sounds like you can register tomorrow if you still want to ride. Is that correct?

    October 24, 2013

  • Daniel M.

it would appear that I have failed to register in a timely manner and as such... am not going to be able to ride? correct?

    October 24, 2013

    • Thomas S.

Yeah, it looks like it is too late at this point - unless you want to ride as a bandit!

      October 24, 2013

    • James L.

    October 22, 2013

    • jeff w.

Think we all should be rolling through around 230?

      October 24, 2013

Let us know whether you decided to sign up. If so, then we will make sure to look for you.

Think there will be some mtn bikers too. I still havent decided on which bike to ride - leaning towards comfort :)

      October 24, 2013

    • Thomas S.

I plan to ride my old mountain bike.

I'm so jealous! Would love to do this ride but will be on a choo choo heading to DC for my marathon. You guys have a great ride!!!

    October 24, 2013

    • Thomas S.

Happy that the shutdown ended, so the marathon can go on as planned. Have a great race!

      1 · October 24, 2013

    • jeff w.

Is that the marine core marathon?

      October 24, 2013

  • Scott C.

I work across the street from the science museum if you guys have any parking or other questions about the museum area.

    October 21, 2013

    • Scott C.

That would be fine, but its a few blocks away if that matters. There is a new deck right behind the Nature Research Center (science museum), on the corner of McDowell and Edenton. There is also a lot on the corner of Jones and Wilmington that's about one block away.

It's a go! Purchased my ticket this morning, and I'm on the shuttle from Raleigh to Durham. I'm taking my road bike and riding through SAS campus to avoid Umstead (Lou's great idea).

    October 21, 2013

    • Lou

Friday will not be a fast ride, so your 16 should be very adequate. Heck, it would be good even if it were a fast ride! Many of us ate riding road bikes. We have a detour mapped to get around Instead.

      October 23, 2013

    • Terry B.

No this is a slow ride and talking along the way. It's to promote the greenways and have fun. There will be some short road parts but not many. Looking forward to Friday!

      1 · October 23, 2013

  • Michael

Will my road bike work for this ride?

    October 23, 2013

  • Terry B.

I'm so excited about Friday and this ride. I'm taking the shuttle to Durham. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and enjoying the greenways! I'll print out some maps to share on Friday. And remember this is a ride not a race back to Raleigh - I plan to take my time and take pictures along the way.

    October 21, 2013

    • jeff w.

Tylers has a lot of options and food - sounds good Terri!

      October 22, 2013

    • Scott C.

Tylers is great! Crankarm seems cool, very bicycle-related from what I was told. My friend said they didn't have food if that makes a difference.

      October 22, 2013

  • Dana R

I will drive my car to Raleigh and do the morning shuttle with you guys even though Durham is much closer to home. Then I have my car to get back whenever we are done drinking! Remember Habitat ride is an early start Saturday. Lou, is there room for one more on that detour???

    October 21, 2013

    • Lou

I don't think we will be size- constrained on the detour. As a SAS employee, Sharon will get us across the campus.

      October 21, 2013

    • Sharon

      Hopefully :)

      October 22, 2013

  • Terry B.

I got in on the shuttle this morning after I saw Pat had signed up.
That will be one fun ride!!! I would keep checking - they may get another bus.
I'm very excited about this fun group ride...

    October 21, 2013

  • Thomas S.

This sounds like too much fun to miss, so I just decided to take the day of and drink/ride with you guys. The shuttle from Raleigh was sold out, so I had to opt for the shuttle back to Durham in the evening. I hope at least one other TOD'er is taking the shuttle in that direction.

    October 21, 2013

  • Lou

    A flask ... What a fantastic idea!!!

    October 21, 2013

  • Joe S.

I noticed that Amtrak has a train from Raleigh to Durham at 4:50pm. Instead of waiting for the 6:30 shuttle back - does anyone know if bikes are allowed on the train? I can't seem to find out on the website...

    October 20, 2013

  • Lou

Pat ... There is a $12 shuttle option. You and your bike get transported from the end point in Raleigh to the start point in Durham. I signed up for it.

    October 19, 2013

    • Pat J.

HI...well the ride starts in Durham and ends in Raleigh where I live so I'm good.....

      October 19, 2013

    • Pat R

I signed up for the shuttle Fri am from Raleigh to Durham

      October 19, 2013

  • Pat J.

I'm shuttling....clearly there is a Village looking for this idiot....all good ....hopefully, will see many of you tomorrow AM.......RIDE SAFELY MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!

    October 19, 2013

  • Pat J.

I'm in....only have a road bike so the detour might be best....any suggestions on carpooling and or how we retrieve our vehicles in Durham? I also can't hang until 6:30 for the return bus.....

    October 19, 2013

  • Dana R

I did this a few years ago. It was fun. Getting back to Durham from raleigh might be a challenge. I don't think I can hang till the shuttle at 630 pm. Any ideas? Lou , I will join you guys in the detour. My cyclecross bike is heavy!

    October 19, 2013

  • jeff w.

Promise theres nothing to be afraid of - except a good time! Its not a race, so whatever u ride road/cross/mtn there will b plenty of 'excuses' for not riding. those who are not afraid of a good time will saddle up and endure - hey it may be 'cold' or 'rainy' = ride on!!

    October 17, 2013

    • jeff w.

Its durham to raleigh, not louis and clarks corps of discovery expedition! :)

      October 17, 2013

    • Terry B.

I slso did this ride a couple of years ago and it was a blast.

      1 · October 17, 2013

  • Lou

A definite maybe for me too. I looked closely at the route to see how much will be on a dirt surface. It looks like dirt will not come into play until the ride crosses Weston Parkway to enter Umstead by Crabtree Lake. If I ride, I will split off at Weston, go through the SAS campus to Reedy Creek, then reconnect with the route where it exits Umstead at Reedy Creek. The overall distance will be about the same, and this little tangent will permit a "rest stop" at Starbucks in the Arboretum shopping center.

    2 · October 17, 2013

    • Ann M

That sounds like a great plan. I ride this route a couple of years ago on my hybrid thinking instead would be too hard on my road bike. But I would have been fine on road bike. I plan on riding it this year. FYI. It's not a fast ride but fun.

      October 17, 2013

    • Sharon

Nice planning, Lou. Might take that detour with you and ride my road bike. I can get us across campus ;)

      October 17, 2013

  • Sharon

This is also a 'maybe' for me. I rode my mountain bike for the first time in a few months today and realized how tough it is to power!!

    October 17, 2013

  • Andy

This is a "maybe" for me. I'll ride if work doesn't get the way.
