Ride at Jordan Lake

I've had my first bowl of cream of wheat, so fall is officially here. Now I just have to work off those carbs. I don't want to do it alone, so please join me on Sunday for a ride around the northern part of Jordan Lake.

This 43-mile route goes along the western side of the lake, up a short, steep hill on Lystra Road, back down Jack Bennett, across the lake, and then back to Southpoint via the American Tobacco Trial. I think this has us on an unpaved section of the ATT for about a mile, so we can tweak the route before we start, if y'all want to.

You can see the route here: http://goo.gl/maps/xReEo (though it may not display correctly on your smartphone). Turn-by-turn directions are below.

I'd like to do it at a modest pace, maybe[masked] mph, depending on the rest of you. We can split into groups if necessary. It will be a no-drop ride, but probably without an assigned sweep.

As of Wednesday, the forecast is for perfect fall weather on Sunday.

You'll need to bring a helmet, hydration and a spare tube, as always. I'd also recommend a snack.

Of the route is reversed would we be coasting DOWN Lystra?

      You are a speed devil!

My original elevation gain was about the same as yours, but it was adjusted to 3475 feet by Garmin Connect using survey data.

    • Lou

Today it sure feels like your 3,475!

Great ride, y'all. Thanks for coming! And thank you for your patients with the snafus at the beginning.

What are you talking about? I don't remember any snafus - except the delayed start, the crash, the almost crash, the missed turn, the dropped rider, the reprimand by the police office and the wrong exit from the greenway! ;-)

I really hope that I can make the same ride this coming Sunday!

@Pat: Watch out, this ride was really awesome!

Thank you for a great ride today Chris. My garmin connect claims 3475 vertical feet, but I might be willing to do it again.

Hey Chris, ATT on a Sunny Sunday will be crowded. You might want to reverse the route for lower crowds. Have fun!

You're right. We had to do a little dodging and weaving. I might've done it in reverse if I'd seen your comment this morning.

Forgot how tough Halloween 100 is. Would love to do this ride but feel like I'd regret it. Next time.

A strong maybe. It's been a screwy weekend so far so if I am not there don't wait on me.

Wanted to ride but realized I have my daughter this weekend. Won't have enough time to ride 43 miles. Maybe next time.

  • Lou

I am a definite maybe. Have to see how the legs feel after riding Friday and Saturday. Thanks for organizing it, Chris.
