Event Description

Reading to Kids is dedicated to inspiring underserved children with a love of reading. RTK coordinates reading clubs at elementary schools in downtown Los Angeles where volunteers are paired up to read aloud to children and create arts and crafts projects about the stories. Each child receives a book to take home and the books read aloud are donated to the school's library.

Please note that for this event you must register directly with RTK as well. See note at the end...

Reading aloud to children imparts a love of books that leads to improved literacy, to a more successful education, and to a brighter future. On average 764 children and 322 volunteers are at these reading clubs dispersed at seven Los Angeles elementary schools.

Kids, parents, teachers, and school libraries receive book donations at the end of the Reading Clubs. These are important donations, as 60 percent of low-income homes do not have age-appropriate reading materials for children.

After the reading, all of the RTK volunteers from the various schools gather at El Cholo for some drinks and snacks.

Since its inception in 1999, Reading to Kids has given more than 99,598 prize books to children who attend the reading clubs, donated more than 17,854 hardcover books to school libraries, and our volunteers have spent over 114,723 hours reading to kids.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
