Welcome to the Ontario Aces Poker League.
We are a group of recreational poker players consisting of men and women of varying ages who want to play a competitive fun poker game. New players are always welcome as the more players the more money and prizes. We are looking for easy going people who take the game serious and will respect the rules and integrity of the game while having a good time and can accept that bad beats happen from time to time.
Ontario Aces Poker League was started in 2012 by Alex MacNab, games are held at his place in Waterdown. There are 3 tables that can be used to allow a maximum of 30 players, 10 per table. These games are all self-dealt with rotating deals and will abide by “Roberts Rules of Poker.” Any circumstances not resolved through these rules will be ruled by the Tournament director, and will be done in the fairest interest of the game and will be final.
This will also be the first season we will try to run satellites to live local and larger games. I will be trying to run satellites to the Brantford or Great Blue Heron Deepstack tournaments as well as W.S.O.P. side events in Las Vegas. Tournaments requiring travel will set aside a portion of the prize pool to cover the players entry, travel and spending cash. Any satellite games will be considered equity games where the winner of the satellite will represent the Ontario Aces Poker League and will agree to split any and all winnings 70/30 where the 30% will be split evenly between the players who participated in the satellite.
If you are looking to have some fun, are serious about the game, looking to improve, want to make new friends than we want you to join us for fun nights of poker.
See you all at the tables,
The Season Format: The season will consist of 10 games and will be a mix of low/mid and higher level buy ins and will be held on occasional weekday evenings, weekend nights and weekend days, this is to ensure that everyone has a chance to come out and play regardless of skill level, work schedule, poker bankroll etc. There will also be a mix of freeze out/re-buy-add-on and deepstack tournaments. This season will have a final tournament of champions that requires players to qualify through the season in order to play in it. There will also be a points system that is used towards the final tournament of champions as well. Each game also has a +$5 or +$10 and this is paid to OAPL to cover costs of running the league ex. Cards, chips, food and drink, tables, chairs, website etc. Each game will have drinks and food provided, either chips or pizza or alike.
Satellite Games: These will not be considered part of the season and will be scheduled and offered at time throughout the season when possible. These satellites will also be equity games and all players intending to play in this will agree that a pre-determined percentage of any prize money won at the main event game will be proportionally split between the winning player and those that played in the satellite. If you do not agree to this equity share than you will not be able to play as you will be representing the OAPL.
Late Registration: Late registration will be permitted only in the re-buy/add-on tournaments and will be allowed until the end of the rebuy period. Players can arrive late and will be able to buy in directly for the tournament without having to have chips in play and blinded out. Although Late registration is available, in the fairness of the game, players should arrive on time if possible and not use late registration as a means to come late to each of these events.
Late Players/No Shows: Any player who has confirmed and is registered for an event will have their chips placed on the table and blinded out until they arrive. No Shows or players not informing OAPL of their inability to make the tournament will receive a No Show badge and will be required to pre-pay for future events. Each player will have until 2 hours before the start time to inform OAPL of their inability to not make it without being badged as a No Show. If a player has subsequently made it out to 4 straight games after being badged a no show, having prepaid and shown up for 4 games, the no show badge will be lifted and no longer have to prepay for each game.
Location: All games will be held at Alex’s place in Waterdown unless otherwise stated and is located close to the intersection of Highway 6 and Parkside drive. Address will be given out to confirmed members. This is a personal residence and should be treated as such, respect of my house and property is essential as I do this for the love of poker and don’t want to fix damages etc for being a host.
Cash Games: These will be rake free games and will only be held on weekend events, either daytime or night time tournaments and will start once one table is free for play and enough players are willing to play. Stakes played can be as low as .50/1.00 or as high as 2/4 and will be at the discretion of the players involved.
The Tournament of Champions: The final tournament will be a restricted event to only those that have qualified and will have a progressive prize pot that is accumulated throughout the season. The seasons 10 games will have 10% of the prize pool set aside for the tournament of champions. The final tournament will be a freeze out with a starting stack of 10k chips and blinds of 25 minutes. In order to qualify for the final tournament you must have played in a minimum of 4 season games. For the tournament of champions, there is a buy in of $10+$10 and will have an additional $10 added on to your buy in fee for every game missed in the season up t a maximum of 6 games and $60. The maximum buy in for the tournament of champions will be $80. The player at the end of the regular season with the most amount of points will receive an absolutely free buyin to the final tournament as their prize for finishing first in the league.
Points System : Players will receive points at every game, regardless of position and buy-in but additional points will be calculated based on a points system that relies on the amount of players, the amount of buy in and the final finishing place of the players. All players will receive minimum points at every game and additional points will be given to those players who made the cash. Paying positions will be based on the amounts of players in the tournament. Each 20 points accumulated during the season will be worth $25 in tournament chips and will be added to your final stack at the tournament of champions.
Points will be calculated as follows:
$25 + $5 games
Each player receives a minimum of 10 points.
1st – 100
2nd – 80
3rd – 60
4th – 40
$50 +$10 and $70+$10 games
Each player receives a minimum of 20 points
1st – 140
2nd – 120
3rd – 100
4th – 80
Alex MacNab will be the tournaments director and players are encouraged to follow “Roberts rules of poker” and if an issue arises that cannot be resolved by such players, my ruling will be made in the fairest interest of the game and will be considered final.
