Public Sector Credit Solutions is introducing a free database containing historical sovereign fiscal data The data is already available at, but the official launch is next week.

Why is this important? If we have complete and accurate financial information for governments that have suffered sovereign debt crises and for those that have avoided them, we should be able to construct useful quantitative models for estimating the risk of default and assigning credit ratings.

The intention is to create a Wiki-style process under which the data is incrementally corrected and augmented by the crowd. The data itself is sitting in MySQL, so it was not immediately obvious how we could leverage a traditional Wiki to invite crowd participation.
