OpenPensions.org + Chicago Department of Transportation

In our next meetup, we'll have two great guests discussing how they use open data to affect policy and deliver services & information to constituents.

First up is Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer. She will have some remarks about her site, OpenPensions.org. She and her staff will do a demo and talk about how this data project fits into legislative and financial planning for the County. Here's more info: "OpenPensions.org provides access to all pension data, analysis of what changes to contributions or benefits would cost and how changes would impact employees. This is the first time that the status of the County’s pension, the unfunded liability and possible solutions will be available to all – taxpayers, employees, retirees and the civic and business community."

Then we'll hear from Gabe Klein, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation. We'll hear his vision for how data can be used to improved service delivery and transportation issues in the city. Here's Klein talking about the recent launch of Open311. We'll review transportation data sets available on data.cityofchicago.org and brainstorm ideas around apps and policy.

We hope you'll join us next week!

Great to see so such a great mix of government, nonprofits, and developers talking about data and policy.

I'm sorry about missing this. I'm feeling under the weather and I won't be able to make it after all. I hope to see everyone next time!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
