Let's meetup and code together. This is for any coder to code on anything.

Checkout this video on OpenHack to learn what it is all about. http://openhack.github.io/.

We are really excited about OpenHack Salem!!!  For those of you coming, here are some more details.  We are being hosted in the offices of ZeroDegrees and Fast Forward.  We are located on the second floor of 276 Essex Street.  Almost everyone has trouble finding the door.  If you are looking at the building there are 4 doors.  Three of them are for the first floor retail establishments of Game Zone, Bella, and Suzanne's.  The fourth door does not have a big sign.  It has small numbers that say 276 on top and there is a sign listing the people who take residence in this office.  This is the door.

Go to the door and ring the doorbell and someone will let you in.

This month, Zero Degrees is sponsoring the snacks, Notch Brewing Company is sponsoring the beer, and Fast Forward is sponsoring the Pizza.

Schedule:

6:30 to 7:00 - Socialize, eat, get a beer or soda.

7:00 Intros - Everyone will say their name, what they are interested in and if there is anything in particular they want to code on tonight.

7:15 - Split up and hack

9:00ish - Wrap up.  If anyone wants to share something cool they learned great.

9:30 - Head over to Flying Saucer Pizza for more beer!

took a little work but i can now make images from sets of coordinates in python and then found a python program to converst those to animated gifs. my goal is to create a gif with 9400 frames (langton's ant) so i need to modify the software i found.. thanks

Fun times last night. Beckah, Hugh, and I worked on d3 visualization using the jsongraph specification (http://json-graph-format.info/). Looking forward to the next one.

maybe i will try to install Numpy and Matplotlib (python) before i come and try to figure out how they work with the goal of making animated gifs of cellular automata patterns? or even just jpgs of patterns at first. or perhaps install Golly (cellular automata engine) and try to use the Python interface with it.

You could use graphviz for rendering graph like structures to jpg, png, avg, etc.

We did a Numpy/Matplotlib project at work a couple months ago to make static, printable versions of d3 charts. I didn't work on it myself, but we tasked our intern with the project and it went pretty smoothly.

Getting really excited about OpenHack tomorrow night! I think what I really want to work on tomorrow night is trying to figure out how to build something like this: http://www.bigscreams.com/

People have been curious about ideas. Remember, this is an Open Hack. Come with ideas or just come and listen to other peoples ideas and pair up and hack.

My ideas personally have been all over the place. My intro might sound like this:

    - Hi I am Jason. I tend to code in PHP, JavaScript and CSS3. I have been doing a lot with D3 lately. I am interested in digging into Swift, Three.js, Drupal 8 and pretty much anything cool.

Any ideas on languages or ideas yet?

    June 22, 2014

    • Jason Y.

Ideas and languages are wide open. The format is: - A round of introductions, where people introduce themselves, talk about what they like to code, and throw out some ideas of what they what to work on that evening. Then we break out into groups of 2-3 and hack on things.

Is it OK if I show up a bit late? I work in Boston so I sometimes don't get back to Salem until after 7.

    June 12, 2014

    • Jason Y.

Hi Bekah, no problem. Come in and introduce yourself. Try to get there as early as you can. We will have a round of intros and try to group people.

Cool. I might just work from home that day so I don't waste time on the commute.
