OpenStack and High Availability

Our Aug. session will explore OpenStack and High Availability. Thanks to IBM for sponsoring and leading the session!

Overview: As we managed internal and external OpenStack deployments in IBM, we experimented with various architectures and approaches that improved OpenStack’s availability and performance. In this session we will introduce OpenStack, and the technologies we used to optimize our environments.

Using practical examples, we will show how we scaled out OpenStack Services (Nova, Horizon, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, etc.) and some of the challenges we ran into along the way. The discussion will detail our use of the following technologies:

• MySQL Clustering

• Galera (Active/Active)

• Corosync & Pacemaker (Active/Standby)

• HAProxy and KeepAlive

• RabbitMQ Clusters

Our speaker:

Manuel Silveyra is a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect with the Open Technologies and Cloud Performance team in IBM.  With a strong background in Linux and Cloud technologies, Manuel has worked extensively with customers and business partners helping them to modernize and improve their IT infrastructures and procedures.

Reminders:

• There will be light dinner courtesy of IBM  ~ 6:15pm and we will kick off the sessions ~ 6:45pm.

• If you are interested in giving a Lightening Talk shoot us a note with a topic or just come to the session ready to speak!

So u have my devstack system
Humming, but was wondering if anyone has access to a full openstack implementation that we could visit. Maybe a lab or text environment. As an infrastructure guy I would also love to see more of plumbing and piping behind the scenes.

Thanks for the Lightning chat slot, would love to see more of these - lots of interesting smaller topics in OpenStack.

The URL for the book website is http://usingjsonschema.com (PDF, ePub versions). It is also available on the iBookstore. Free from both places.
All source code (Python, Javascript/Node.js) is available on GitHub at the project web page https://github.com/usingjsonschema

Very interesting topic, wish I could be there! Instead I'll throw this on the grill and hope to discuss developing patterns for HA at some point, instead of approaching HA as DIY projects: http://www.moorinsightsstrategy.com/research-paper-stratus-cloud-solution-beta-sda-for-openstack-private-clouds/
BTW, AWS gives customers the same DIY challenges for scaling HA.
