HTML & CSS for Beginners

Want to learn the languages that power the content of the web? HTML & CSS make up the content and display of every single web page.

This workshop is for beginners in HTML & CSS. Everyone is welcome.

In the workshop we'll start by putting together a simple "Hello World" page in HTML, then use CSS to "style" it and make it look interesting. Building on that we'll put together a professional looking portfolio page.

All you need to bring is a laptop and some enthusiasm! OpenTechSchool workshops are all with open-source, free software running on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. All course material is free and hosted online.

Because the number of seats is limited, it is important that you only sign up if you definitely plan on coming (and do so, too!). If you can't make it for any reason, please cancel your attendance on Meetup right away so your someone on the waiting list can take your place. Thanks!

Coaching

If you know some HTML & CSS and you'd like to come and coach at this workshop then you're very welcome, thanks for volunteering! No need to RSVP here, but please email [masked] so we can estimate coach numbers. Thanks!

CALLING ALL APPLE PROs. Upon typing your password on the virtual keyboard on your iPad every letter is visible for 3 seconds before it hides. How do you change this so that it automatically shows encrypted asterix for every letter? Thank you guys. Kind regards, Brigitte.

Great introduction to html, css. Can I suggest one thing that would be helpful next time...have an accurate, whole example of the correct formatting for the html as you progress through the exercise. To help noobs like me to make sure I'm not messing it up along the way.

In any case, thanks to the organisers for providing this session, and the cookies. Next time highlight to everyone that you have a donation tin to cover expenses (and cookies). Not sure if most attendees were aware.

If I am on the waiting list, does that mean I can't attend tomorrow? Would really love the opportunity to learn!

      Hi Penny,

Unfortunately we do have limited space, so the numbers are limited by meetup. However in previous events a lot of people have cancelled their attendance on the morning of the event - so if you keep an eye out you may still be able to come along.

If not then please stay in the Meetup group and keep an eye out for our next worksho!

    Hi Matt,

I have a very good foundation in HTML5 and CSS. I have done a few simple projects on my own, I am self-taught. I need guidance with what to do next, I hope I am a good fit for the group. Thank you. B.

      Hi Marie-Brigitte,

Sounds like it'd be great to have you come along and coach a bit if you could, thanks! I'm pretty sure there will be a few other people with HTML5/CSS experience around that you can bounce ideas off or ask questions of at the same time. :)
