If you haven’t the time or money for a trip across the pond to see the National Theatre’s current hot ticket production of “People”, come and see a high-definition broadcast of this hilarious new play.
Now in its fourth season, National Theatre Live in HD continues to deliver performances of some of the best of British theater to theatres around the world. Stage performances are captured live in front of an audience at London’s National Theatre and its collaborating companies. The shows are then broadcast (live and time-delayed) in high definition across Europe and America.
Alan Bennett is one of Britain’s most celebrated comic playwrights whose wonderful plays include “The Madness of George III,” “Talking Heads” and “The History Boys” among many others.
“People” is about an aristocratic ex-model named Dorothy (Frances de la Tour), who lives in her moldering mansion with her companion, Iris (Linda Bassett). Dorothy shrinks from the idea of her home being opened to the public gaze. She is even tempted by an offer from an appraiser to transport the whole house to Dorset or Wiltshire.
“People” has been called “outrageously funny and provocative” by The Independent News, “wonderfully funny,” by The Times, and “entertaining, and surprisingly touching” by The Daily Telegraph.
