New Year's Resolution Hike

This hike is hosted by Los Angeles 20s 30s section of the Sierra Club, www.sc2030.org.

Welcome to the new year - how's your 2013 ... ah does not matter anymore ... it's almost 2014 now (or it will be 2014 on our hike) ...

No matter if you're feeling 'lowe' or not, we need some 'inspiration' at some 'point' to face the new year.

So join me for an inspirational hike to Mt. Lowe. We will start our journey from Cobb's Estate pass the ruin of the White Mountain (a.k.a. Echo Mountain). After a 10-15 minutes break at the ruins, we will then take a steeper route up to Inspiration Point. We will take a quick picnic at this point to enjoy the scenery (you can also do a FB check-in here!!!). After the quick picture break, we will then continue our journey to the last 2 miles to Mt. Lowe where we can see 360 degree view of the San Gabriel mountain range.

Quick facts:

Distance: 14 miles

Duration: 7-8 hours

Elevation gain/loss: 4000'

Please bring at least 3 liters of water, lunch and snack, and some money if you want to join us for late lunch after the hike.

Hiking boots with good traction and hiking poles will help.

So if you ready to leave the old year behind and face the new one, please join us.

Cancellation Policy:
Rain, snow, icy trail will cancel the hike. Also extreme hotness and fire breathing dragon.

Lisa, I haven't been to the park and ride before. If I'm not mistaken, I'll be able to park my car there and carpool with others. Right?

Any chance this hike will open up to more hikers?

    December 29, 2013

    • Lisa L

As this hike is posted on three different sites we will not be opening it up to more hikers. Quite often people RSVP yes at first and then have to cancel, so it is likely that a spot will become available.

14 miles R/T - this is a longer and different route than we did last January isnt' it?

    December 27, 2013

    • Chris L

Which route you took last January? We're going to take Castle Canyon up and the longer way down (via Sunset Point).

    • Charles G. G.

We did castle canyon, but we didn't do Sunset Point. I think we only did about 8 miles R/T last Jan

Yay! I take it this will be a rather fast paced hike...

It will be a fast and furious hike (j/k) ... Most likely moderate speed ~ 2 mph.

Just so you know, I've always wanted to see a fire breathing dragon in the wild. Just saying...

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
