Holiday Trading Festivus!

  • Dec 17, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Come finish out the year by sharing a recent winning and losing trade that you took. As much as possible, prepare materials to describe why you entered and exited the trade. You may want to prepare printed handouts, or something on a laptop. You can send digital materials (PowerPoint, documents, image files, etc) to Scott ([masked]) if you don't want to bring a laptop and he can put it on his laptop. Please notify Scott in advance if you plan to present a trade so that he can get an idea of how many presentation there will be.

We would like to have at least 4-8 people share trades, preferably one winning trade and one losing trade. Discuss your reasons for taking the trade and what you learned from it. If you can't share any trades you are still welcome to come attend and learn from other's trading successes and mistakes.

If we have time we will then talk about what sort of trends or changes to look for in 2014 and how to profit from them. Will 3D printing continue to explode? Should we all be hoarding Bitcoins? What roll will the eventual Fed tapering have on our trading? Which sectors or markets are poised make a lot of moves next year? Those sort of things. Start thinking now and bring your ideas.

After that, we will engage in a voluntary white elephant gift exchange. If you bring a gift, you can participate in the exchange. Don't go overboard on the price, something tasteful and inexpensive works best, probably something $10-20 in value. You don't have to participate in the exchange if you are not comfortable with that.

It was very interesting. I like that we had a chance to share our knowledge and our work with the rest of the people.

It sounds like everybody had a good time. I'm sorry I missed it. Thanks Christine for hosting, Araz for posting pictures, and Araz, Christine, Jeff and Angel for sharing their trades and setups.

Due to family obligations I won’t be able to make the Meetup tonight, but Christine Baker has stepped forward to help run the show in my absence. So come one, come all and have a good time! Take some pictures and post them to the Meetup (you can use the phone app to easily do this).

Scott, I would love to talk a bit about my experiences. I worked on Wall Street years ago, at Salomon Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Shearson Lehman. About 1980 I was a member of the Market Technicians Association in NYC, and one day got ahold of Welles Wilder's book on technical analysis and indicators. I literally programmed most of his studies (like RSI, ADR), and did computer generated optimizations while at Salomon Bros. I have traded on and off for decades, have been a commodity broker about 4 different times. Right now I am day trading futures, generally about 4 to 8AM, then go to my day job in financial marketing.

If you want to share some trades on Tuesday let me know. Otherwise, if you wanna chat I'm always open [masked] or[masked]-6104. All of my futures trading is automated, programmed by myself, and for my manual trading of stocks and options I use a lot of statistics and data as well.

Let me know if you feel like sharing some trades and setups. So far Manisha and Araz have expressed interest. Anybody else? If you're not sure on how to do it contact me and I will give you some ideas.
