Essences and Essentials: The Basics of Wine Tasting in Four Parts

This class is designed to provide you with a fundamental understanding of the elements of wine and all the basic tools you will need to begin tasting knowledgeably. Order a dinner dish from the restaurant, optionally.

In part one, you will learn a systematic approach to tasting, involving the examination of the wine’s appearance, aromas, and palate qualities. In part two, we will provide you with over 50 different samples of substances that are common descriptors of wine fragrances, including fruits, flowers, spices, and other intriguing essences. In part three, you will begin to apply your new knowledge by systematically tasting 8 different varietals – for instance Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, or Zinfandel – and working to identify their essential aromas and tastes. Finally, in part four, we will “test” your skills by pouring three wines blind and asking you to guess what wines you are tasting.
After taking this class, we believe you will emerge with a sounder set of tasting skills than you have ever had before, and you will also have had a Hell of a lot of fun.

The cost for this event will be $49 all inclusive.
