What a weekend!!! 200m races at night, 500m races during the day, and our first event with both Ladies and Mixed teams competing. Before I get into the details, I want to thank Dawn Alligood for coordinating the event. My guess is she put in a minimum of 15 hours collecting money / waivers, reserving condos, reserving a restaurant, and working with GWN. All this plus Susan G Komen and her real job??? Thanks Dawn!
Friday night was a hoot! Paddlers, boats, and buoys were adorned with glow sticks with the course illuminated from the shore (sort of). Also, the shallow Downtown Disney lake created some poseidon waves which also added to the excitement… not. The Ladies rocked it out with Windy City / PDBA and secured a Silver Friday night, while the Mixed team posted a new Personal Best Record of 52 seconds for 200m! (5th overall)
Saturday was a gorgeous day for 500m races. Our Ladies again came in 1st in their division while the Mixed team came up a little short in the finals (1st through 5th place decided by 2 seconds); however, we all felt great about the effort – we left nothing on the boat. Also knowing we were going against great teams who practice year round (4x a week) and stacked with Team USA paddlers. grrrr
All in all, a great weekend and a perfect way to close the season. And now for your moment of zen… video from the Mixed team Friday night: http://youtu.be/FVyhaYzEKWU
