Jacksonville Dragon Boat Festival

  • This is a feeler to see who is interested in racing this event. Once we have 15 paddlers committed we will move from there.

    "On September, 27th 2014, Jacksonville will host the second annual Jacksonville Dragon Boat Festival at the Jacksonville Landing on the St. John’s River in downtown Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Landing is a spectacular, spectator-friendly venue, with an array of restaurants and shops. This all-day event will feature teams from Florida, South Carolina, and more. We hope to have at least 50 teams and over 1000 paddlers participate, as well as thousands of spectators come to watch the fascination of sleek, 42-foot long dragon boats gliding through the water, powered only by paddlers!"

    The races are 360 meters in length.

    This is a huge event with a lot of sponsors. I would really like to participate in this event after seeing the beautiful pictures I saw last year.

    So the decision has been made to withdraw our name from Jacksonville. I will be returning monies to those who paid.

    So here is the thing, the people I had lined up to paddle with us at Jacksonville all fell out yesterday. Within a few hours we were short 6 paddlers. We are allowed to race with 16 paddlers but we are registered as premiere mixed. I think paddling with this few paddlers will be an uphill battle especially with the competition we are facing. I've reached out to all I could to help fill the team. We thought we could cross roster with Charge however that idea was shot down by the race organizers because even though Charge is a community team they practice weekly and that would make it unfair to the other teams paddling for the charity for the first time. We are both racing in the same division. Unless someone has at least 4 other paddlers who might be able to race with us I think we have to cancel attending this race. Charge is short 4 paddlers so if you would like to race with them instead let me know. Sorry about this guys. I've been doing all I can to get us more folks.

    Jax Team - questions for you. I heard some say we were looking at staying overnight. Is that Friday or Sat?
    I saw we only have 13 paddlers. The rules at the race say we must have a minimum of 18 and a drummer. Who is drumming for us? Are we mixing with another team? Your feedback is appreciated.
