Planning Session

I'd like to meet up with folks who have ideas and suggestions for club activities, programs, workshops, etc.

Please bring your ideas and lets talk.

Let's meet in the Starbucks coffee area in the Barnes and Noble store. I'll bring a small robot, perhaps a Lego robot, to put on the table so you can easily find us.

PS - some of us are planning to create a series of workshops we'll provide during the coming year, and I would like to hear your advice about topics of interest, etc.

Agenda:

·  Schedule to Meet: Once a month?

·  Meeting Format Ideas: introductions, presentations, show & tell, etc.?

·  Places to Meet: Orlando Science Center, etc.?

·  Contacts at Places to Meet?

·  Are you interested in presenting at meetings?

·  Other ideas and suggestions?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hey Kevin. I have been considering a robotics class for my son (almost 10) and see that you coach robotics teams and teach in other similar arenas. He has a passion for robotics, Mindstorms, interest in building with circuit boards, Rokenbok, LEGOs, 3D Printers, programming, Scratch, etc. I was wondering if during one of the meet ups I could pick your brain as to which organization/group would be best for him to get involved with. I always prefer to get insightful advice before I join and pay for group activities. No worries if this is not something you would prefer doing. Thank you.

Hey Kevin. Thanks for getting back to me. I will look more into the Lego League this year. I discovered it too late last year to join. Thanks for your input and willingness to help a total stranger out with your recommendations! I'll try to make the next meetup. This sounds like a great group.

Thanks Richard! We had a very good discussion about planning the future of the club, to begin regular meetings in the next couple of months. :-) PS/FYI - Everyone: Richard has a non-profit website distributing electronics kits, http://circuitsforfun.com I recommend checking out what he offers there!

Hi Kevin! Sounds great – not sure if I an make it, but I'm wondering if the group might be interested in programs CuriosityMachine.org curriculum? This is a project I'm heavily involved with, and we're looking for groups of families to give feedback on the upcoming relaunch of our website. The goal is to lead children through the engineering design process with open-ended design challenges. So far, robotics are just in planning, as most everything is very beginner-level for kids who have not had exposure to engineering thought process/problem solving. Let me know if this seems a good fit – I would love to talk more about it!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
