This month we have one beginner talk and one more advanced. Free beer and drinks from Envy Labs as usual.
First up is Aimee Simone doing an "Intro to Delayed Job". This beginner talk will describe how to use the Delayed Job gem for executing long-running tasks in the background of a Rails application. We'll start by building a simple app that sends a mailer, demo sending the mailer manually, and then refactor it to be fired off as a delayed job.
Then Chris McNabb will be doing a talk entitled "Practical Messaging - Can my cat talk to my turtle?". If you need a way for processes to communicate with each other or if you need to push tasks to background worker processes, a service bus backed by a message queue is a great, practical architecture for you. I'm going to be talking to you today about a recent system we developed that uses this approach.
Hopefully see you there!
