Who are some of your favorite writers? Or the last book you have read?

Favorite writers include Diane Duane, Rick Riordan, JK Rowling, Robert A Heinlein, Spider Robinson, certain Ray Bradbury. George RR Martin (Wild Cards, but sadly not Game of Thrones). Early Clany novels (his later ones need an editor badly).

What would you like to improve with your writing?

First, I know I have bad habuts - I'm a rookie. Since have a lot of acting experience, I tend to be rhetorical at times - telling, rather than showing. I am also afraid that switching between narratve points of view midstream might not be the best way to go...

What genres do you tend to write? For example, paranormal romance, hard science fiction, etc.

Right now, adventure with a science fction twist, but I have an outline for a possible Fantasy novel sitting on Yarny marinating right now.

What is the best or worst piece of writing advice you've ever been given?

Best piece of writing advice - just write. Every day. Make it as much of a habit (or more so for me) than daily exercise.

When participating in small group discussions, do you more often listen or wait to speak?

I tend to speak my mind, but I also know when I don;t understand. I approach things logically (I actually was kicked out of an acting school once for being "too intellectual"). so I try to make sure I understand how things work.

Hello! My name is Don Speirs. I've been an actr and performer for almost 40 years, but this year I took on a new challenge - NaNoWriMo! I wrote an 85K word novel in 27 days... and need to move it to the next stage. Adventure w/ sci fi elements!
