Where is the meeting being held? I don’t get off work until 7pm so I would be considerably late L

Subject: [Orlando-Science-Fiction-and-Fantasy-Writers] Critique Meetup this Wednesday

Hi, just a reminder,

We are meeting this Wednesday (December 14th) at 6:30 PM for a writer's critique session.  Meeting time is 6:30, but I think we might not start until 7PM if we're ordering food and such.  So arrive when you can, but the critique won't officially start until 7PM.  I'll try to have a sign at the table identifying our group.

Also, coincidentally, December 14th is Shirley Jackson's birthday, author of "The Lottery," "The Haunting of Hill House" and one of my favorite writers!

Downloading files:

I did notice something, When you are downloading files to be critiqued, Meetup gives you the option to select who can view this file.

I'd suggest choosing,

"Only members of this meetup group"

instead of "Anyone" when downloading,

which would allow anyone on meetup to theoretically view your work.  Just a thought, since the default when uploading is not "Only members of this Meetup Group."

But if you don't mind sharing your stories with the world and whatever outcomes that might have, maybe that's your cup of tea!

Just a note on the critique format, we'll be using the Milford Method of group critique.  You can find out more about it here:

However, I would add to this, if you don't feel comfortable giving a critique of a given story, you can simply say "pass".  You might also pass if everyone has already echoed your sentiments of a story. Or you could pass if you feel as if you are not the target audience for a piece, or if you have a strong negative reaction to a story, emotional or otherwise.

Now I wouldn't recommend passing on every single story, but it is an option you have.  I'd also suggest giving written comments on a printed copy of the story directly to the author at the end of critique. I've found that during a critique session, it's sometimes difficult to process everything that's said in the course of 30-45 minutes and it helps to have written reminders about what's been said.

Currently there are three stories to be critiqued. And there are still a few places left if other writers want to attend the last official meeting of the year!

Best wishes, looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday.
