You don't need to find an underground site.  iTunesU has some awesome classes from Stanford for Java (Android) and iOS and they are free.  There are also classes from Carnage Mellon, UC Santa Cruz, Cornell and many others.

I’ve been looking to hire iOS and Android developers lately (for a client), and it kinda makes me want to learn how to develop in both platforms.  Anyone know of an awesome/underground/1337 website that teaches the basics?

Thanks.

Sweet, I've always wondered how to do OTR with iOS. I know a lot of those receipt scanning applications use it. Neat stuff.

Regarding the original thread I've contributed to the Kickstarted and you should too.

There are some OCR utilities out there like http://www.abbyy.com/mobileocr/ or the open sourced Tesseract https://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/. Take a look at those!

Actually, that's precisely around the area I need to look into. As long as I can find an API that does similar work (considering the amount of work that would go into building your own pixel -> word translator isn't realistic for one person).

Not off the top of my head Brandon.  Are you looking to pull the IPTC data from the photograph?  Does the iPhone actually write that IPTC data I wonder?  Now that you mention it, I too would be interested in that data.

Thanks for the heads up. I just had an app idea that needs something that can take snapshots and divide up text/information from the photo. Any ideas on the matter? I need to separate and import information from the snapshot.

Hey Guys,

For those of you that use your phone as a camera, and maybe an app like Instagram to add filters etc. Check out the Kickstarter project for Pressgram.  This is an app that lets you take your photos, add great filters, and then share them directly to your Wordpress blog (or not if you so choose).  Probably the coolest thing about it though is that unlike Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram you keep complete ownership of your content.

I have been following the developer, John Saddington and his company 8Bit for a while now and he is the real deal.  I did a piece over at MacDaily.co where you can find out more information about him and Pressgram.  I personally backed the project and he is about $10k away from his goal and it would be a great way to help support another committed developer.

Here is my article where you can find out more:  http://cl.ly/Nxgc

Thanks,

Demian
