What is the core objective(s) of the Meetup group? Are these communications in the spirit of that objective? If not, they don't belong. The following blurb is taken from the Meetup page for the group and does not appear to mention job seeking or recruitment anywhere:

The Orlando PHP meetup is for web development professionals looking to discuss and learn about the C-type programming language PHP, which is used in a variety of common web applications. We meet on the first Thursday of each month to present and discuss projects we're working on and trade stories from the workforce.

I'm fairly active on a CISSP mailing list and rather than flood the main list with recruitment spam we created a separate CISSPjobs list where folks who were interested could subscribe and those that were not could opt out. Other lists I'm on have moderation in place and filter out the spammy stuff.

I'd personally recommend someone organize an IT Recruitment Meetup where folks who are interested can subscribe, attend functions, etc but not sure how realistic that is given the cutthroat nature of recruitment in general. It's a pipe dream I know. Either way, I'd welcome less recruiter spam.

Hi everybody,

I'm really surprised by all the negative feedback everyone's putting into the mailing list. While I understand how annoying it is to have an e-mail flooded with people complaining, it's a good opportunity for David to get feedback from the community so he can figure out the best way to moderate recruitment techniques in the list. There have been some good ideas put forward, and I'm surprised by all the attempts to squash the conversation.

One of the benefits of the mailing list is the opportunity for group members to communicate with the rest of the community about whatever topic they feel is important. We aren't all going to be interested in whatever topic is being discussed, but that doesn't mean that we should exclude everyone from having a conversation if that's what they want to do.

That's probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but there you have it. I hope everyone's having a good Friday. Weekend starts in a couple hours!

New Rule: If you don't like the recruiters email them personally. Don't pollute the mailing list with your complaints.

How dare you put that code all on the same line.. It's like we're all animals on this list. ANIMALS!

Everyone, chill out. Enjoy the weekend. ;)
