Re: [orlandopython] Meetup Cancelled: Orlando Python Monthly Meetup

At this point - I feel it is important that we give credit where credit is due. Thank you David for your service in the past and Devin <SP? I'm sorry in advance> thank you for your service in the present and hopefully, future.

David can turn the keys over to Devin which will allow the continuity of the community as David moves on to, hopefully, bigger and better things.

Devin - if the meetup requires the account to be deleted and rejoined please let the community know so we can make the efforts required to remain in the loop.

After some discussion with Devin last week, we don't anticipate many participants in the December meetup.

I'd be willing to meetup formally or informally - get with me on a different channel if you're interested.

Regardless - David - thank you again.

David,
Thank you for all the work you've put into the Orlando Python MeetUp over the years. Good luck in your new home!

Is there a way to promote Python in the local community without having monthly Python-focused meetings? I love Python, and it's an essential tool for many of my projects, but it's hard to call myself a "Python developer" because it's usually just one part of a project. I have this handy little Python script that uses Requests to take hosts offline in Nagios, and it would have been a nightmare to do that in Bash...but that's not something that I would present at a MeetUp. Would we be better off presenting Python tools at other types of MeetUps, such as Orlando Data Science? Should we transition this MeetUp to one that is more task-oriented, rather than tool-oriented? Should we take a more tutorial approach that aims to introduce non-users to Python? What if we do a mini-un-conference focused on Python once a year? What if we collaborate with FOSSETCON 2016 and do a Python mini-conference?

I don't claim to have the answers! I'd love to hear what other people are thinking.

Hey all,

As some of you may already know, I've recently relocated to the Raleigh-Durham area to continue teaching with The Iron Yard a little closer to home. As such, I'm not really the most qualified to continue running this meetup group. For the time being I've cancelled the recurring monthly meeting but kept the other non-group-specific reminders on the calendar. If anyone would be interested in taking up the mantle, please contact me directly: [address removed]

It's been great meeting many of you over the years, and I wish you the best. Thanks,

David @ Orlando Python
