Thank you to everyone that came tonight. Was great to meet you all. Really enjoyed the discussion about the book and everything else we covered!
I will put a summary of the main points of the discussion up on the discussion board later this week, please feel free to add to it if you think I have missed anything out. If anyone wants to watch the film it is available on the main Netflix site (but not the Norwegian one). Hope to see you all soon :)

Hi! I'm disappointed to say I can't come along tonight. I even have the book, though not read it for many years! I'll keep an eye out for the next book though as I'd really love to meet you all and be able to contribute.
Have you thought about reading any Knut Hamsen? I read Sult (Hunger) over the summer and as it is set in Oslo, it was a fascinating read.
Ha det bra and catch you next time :)

Hi Helen, sorry you can't make it tonight but hope you can make it to a meeting soon :-)
Markens Grøde was nominated last month, but didn't win the poll. I would definitely like to read something by him, despite him being seen as a bit of a controversial figure!

I read that too - though they're the only two of his I have read. They are very different books, almost as if they could have been written by different authors. I believe Markens Grøde inspired Per Pettersen too; Out Stealing Horses was an accessible read - I'm attempting to read and listen to the Norwegian to improve those skills... :)

I'm coming this time (and looking forward to it!) because it's autumn holiday, but usually I work every evening from Monday to Thursday until 9pm, so it will be not possible for me to attend these days... I know that weekends are usually reserved for more exciting activities, but if it could be at least sometimes f.ex. on Friday (or maybe Sunday, how about nice reading-Sunday? :-)), that would be really great. :-) However, enjoy reading and looking forward to see you all!

Mekaniske's address is Tøyenbekken 34, its just in front of the skatte ost!!! Its quite nice, cheap and cozy and you can bring your own food from home, because they only serve beverages!

Exactly, this is on the corner between Skatte Øst and Bussterminalen and the entrance is beside garbage bins. If I was not taken there by my friend I would never know and I went past this place several times;)
My friend told me people order pizza to be delivered there.

Hello - I would really like to attend this meeting, but unfortunately I always work a double shift on a Wednesday. So that day is impossible for me. Will the meetings always be on a Wednesday? Cheers. :)

Hi Alison, we try and move the meeting around so that everyone has a chance to come to the meeting :)

I couldn't find the book anywhere either, and then I waited too long to order it online. See you guys next time instead.

Please feel free to come along anyway and meet everybody. It's very rare we spend the whole meeting talking about the book we have read in the previous month :)

Hi all! Just joined the group today, so probably won't get the book read in time for Wednesday's meetup :) I'll keep an eye out for the announcement of the next title and look forward to meeting everyone!

I would love to join you for the next book club meet! Sadly I can't make it this Wednesday.

Can't make it this month, but what will be the book for next month?

    September 30, 2013

    • Tiffany N.

Hi Shaun, people bring book suggestions to the meeting and we then put it to the vote via a poll on here :)

Welcome to all the newbies! We'll be arranging a social meetup some day after wednesday's meeting so that those of you who can't make it or who are just feeling a little shy can get to know everyone before next month's book meeting. Watch this space :)

Hi there, also just joined the group and unfortunately won't be here next week as scooting back to Edinburgh, but hopefully next time and looking forward to it, will get my reading glasses polished ready for the next book.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone is done reading the book and would be willing to lend it to me? I have been to 5 bookstores and have not been able to find a copy of this book. Thank you for considering!

Sorry, I went to 5 bookstores and couldn't find it; there is not time now to read it. Will try to get it on the next one!

I have decided to download an ebook on Kindle because I could not find the paper version as well.

I've read the book, although it's quite a while ago now. I'll probably remember a lot when I start talking about it - that usually happens. :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
