Our friends at Carleton University Freethought are hosting this event

It will start at 6:30 in room 115 in Patterson Hall.

Here's their description:

CFI is graciously giving us a live feed of the talk Michael Shermer will be giving in Toronto this Friday. Admission is $8 over there but FREE for us!

Below is the description of the talk.

Ever wonder why people believe in UFO abductions, mind-reading,
reincarnation, urban legends, not to mention "scientific creationism"
and the pernicious myth that the Holocaust never happened?

Dr. Michael Shermer, the Founding Publisher of Skeptic magazine, is a
genuine ghost-buster, a relentless crusader against superstition and
pseudoscience. Based on his bestselling book, Why People Believe Weird
Things, Dr Shermer’s lecture will debunk junk science, bad science,
voodoo science, pathological science, pseudoscience, and plain old
nonsense. The event will be filled with humour, insight, and personal
anecdotes - a highly entertaining wake-up call that has proved a hit
on college campuses.

Dr. Michael Shermer is the Founding Publisher of Skeptic magazine, the
Executive Director of the Skeptics Society, a monthly columnist for
Scientific American, the host of the Skeptics Distinguished Science
Lecture Series at Caltech, and Adjunct Professor of Economics at
Claremont Graduate University.

For August, Ottawa's Lee Graham will be giving a lecture on his 3D Virtual Creature Evolution computer program. This is the monthly organizational meeting. The first hour is a lecture on some kind of skeptical/science topic. The second hour is an organizational meeting. The meeting's purpose is to discuss the direction of the organization and can be quite boring to some folks. If you're a busy person, or you hate meetings, there's no shame in just attending the lecture and skipping out on the meeting.

If you have any questions or get lost on campus, give me a call at 613-261-6543
