RE: [webdesign-552] Advices for a future exchange student

Igor,

As Chris mentioned below, the universities he mentions are very highly regarded but be very careful about assessing a university based on one specific faculty as being strong overall. For instance, Western has a tremendous reputation for its business school and clearly holds its own against schools such as Wharton and Harvard but you can’t say the same for its mathematics program. Generalizations are somewhat dangerous to make.

Focus not on “this university is great and that’s one’s not” but rather, which universities you are considering are strongest in your area of study.

Pierre

As I said, I'm a web developer searching for improvements on my abilities with interfaces, performance and, secondly, project management.

The problem is that the other application form (from CBIE) holds circa 40 universities, and I cannot choose any of them, unless I have a strong reason for that - this way I would write them about it and pray for them to understand my point.

Going by the CALDO application form I'll probably be allocated to Ottawa or Dalhousie, at least.

Hi,

I would argue that Ottawa or Carleton are not two of Canada's best universities. Broadly speaking, Canada best universities include: U of T, Queens, UBC, McGill, Western, Dalhousie etc. However these are broad categories. It really depends on the program you are interested in. Each school has it's strengths.

Hello!

I'm a PHP/Ruby developer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I'm applying for a one-year exchange program for undergraduate studies. I have to opt between Canada and Australia.

I'm currently in the second half of my Information Systems course, and I'm looking to improve my abilities with interfaces, web technologies, performance and, secondly, project management.

I'm a little bit inclined to choose Canada, but I'm collecting some opinions at this time. If I choose Canada and get approved, I'll be sent to one of these four institutions: Laval (that's unlikely, since I'm applying for english classes) Alberta, Dalhousie and Ottawa.

The program chooses the university based on my current course and needs; I've read a little bit about them, and I think I would be sent to Dalhousie (Halifax) or Ottawa.

What do you think/know about those cities and universities? And how about their courses?

Any, ANY information would be sooo appreciated (:

Thanks in advance for your attention!
