Web Project Night - All Web Developers and Designers Welcome!

  • November 4, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • Shopify Coffeehouse

Note: We've had to limit the number of attendees to 30 people, due to the number of seats available at the venue. If you plan on being there, please RSVP to reserve your spot. If you can't make it and have already RSVP'd, if you could please cancel your RSVP to allow someone else to come, that'd be great. Thank you.

Come on out to Web Project Night!

All Web Developers and Designers are welcome -- no matter your skill-level.

Bring a Design/Ruby/Javascript/Python/PHP project to work on, even if it's just an idea, sit around the tables and hack alongside fellow web developers and designers.

Make some progress on your project, get your questions answered, share advice, make connections, collaborate on an app, or volunteer to help out some of the newer developers.

All skill-levels are welcome and encouraged to come!

If you don't have a project, don't worry, we'll find something for you to do. ;)

Why?

Because one of the best ways to level up your skillz is to work on a project, and Web Project Night is a great way to do that!

Not only that, but sometimes it's good to just feed off of the energy of a room full of people doing the same thing as you.

Time and Place

Time: 6:30pm

Bring: Yourselves, your laptop and a project to work on.

Plan on coming?
Please RSVP and let us know.

Pizza and Drinks Sponsored by Shopify

There will be pizza and drinks provided, sponsored by the kind and generous Shopify. By the way, they're hiring -- click here to check out their openings!

Beginners are welcome!

Don't feel shy if you're a beginner. This is a judgement-free zone, and volunteers will be on hand to help out.

On "the project"

Don't have an idea for a project? Try picking your favourite web app, thinking about how you'd improve it, and making a better version of it. Add in your personal flavour. ;)

You can also get some ideas by choosing something you want to learn (e.g. Node.js, HTML5 game development, CSS3 Animations, etc.), and cloning an existing app using that technology.

Or, pick your favourite mobile app, and make a web-based version of it.

Still nothin'? No worries. Join us and see what others are working on. You'll be inspired. :)

Come on out, it'll be fun!

We hope to see you there,

The Ottawa Ruby Team

Thought I would share what I am working on in advance of the meeting: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-notes-widget/. Fairly simple right now, adding auto posting to Facebook/Twitter at the moment.

Bill

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
