What better way to start your Independence Day celebrations than with a tour of JPL, the folks who can put Mini Cooper-sized rovers on Mars!
A tour of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory campus has been reserved for members of the Our Cosmos group on Wednesday, July 3rd, from 1-3:30 p.m.
All tours commonly include a multimedia presentation on JPL entitled "Journey to the Planets and Beyond," which provides an overview of the Laboratory's activities and accomplishments. Guests may also visit the von Karman Visitor Center, the Space Flight Operations Facility, and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility. Learn all about how the Mars Rover Curiosity was built.
THE FOLLOWING IS IMPORTANT -- JPL requires that:
--All U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older, must present official, government issued photo identification (driver's license or passport) before being allowed entry.
--All non-U.S. Citizens 18 years of age or older must present a passport or resident visa (green card) before being allowed entry.
--Individuals without proper identification will not be admitted to the Laboratory.
I want this to be an enjoyable day for everyone so please dress comfortably with good walking shoes. This is a walking tour and involves a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing. Don't forget to dress for the weather as the tour will proceed rain or shine! Cameras are permitted on the facility.
A finalized roster of attendees will need to be submitted online 3 weeks prior to the date of the tour. Any guest not on the finalized roster will not be allowed entry.

The tour and parking are free. There are NO restaurant facilities open to the public. An optional lunch before the tour will be posted at a later date.
PLEASE NOTE: For security purposes, I will need a complete roster of those attending one month in advance. For what you will need on the day of the visit, please see above. The minimum required # of visitors is 20. If we do not get 20 RSVPs by June 2nd, the tour will be canceled.
CARPOOLING: For those who need a ride, please list your location in the comment section below. For those who would like to volunteer to drive, please list your location and how many people you can take. Carpooling is advised and a lot more fun, especially if we stop for lunch before the tour.
Pre-tour lunch (Optional): Lunch will be at DISH restaurant in La Canada Flintridge. We will be meeting at the restaurant at 11:30 a.m.. Please let Stuart know that you will be coming so he can make the arrangements. His phone number is in the email sent to all attendees.
