The Planck Space Telescope: Revealing the Ancient Universe

TIME: 7-9 p.m.

Launched on May 14, 2009, the Planck mission studies the ancient radiation from the Big Bang, called the cosmic microwave background, to help answer questions about the early history and evolution of the universe. The European Space Agency mission, with significant NASA/JPL participation, produced its first all-sky image, and scientists continue to analyze and parse the various and complex elements. The first cosmology results from Planck revealed the most precise measurements yet of the age, origins and fate of our universe.

I was held up in traffic also but I did arrive before the start of the lecture. I sat on the left side also and looked around but didn't see you anywhere. Half way through I was overcome with fatigue and left early.

What a fascinating lecture! I was a last minute add, but I'm glad that I made it out to Pasadena. I didn't see the Cosmos group @ the event, but, I still had a great time learning about Planck and CMB.

Leo, sorry we missed you. We were over on the left side of the forum. From the pictures you posted, it looks as though you were on the right side. But some people came in late (I got caught in traffic due to an accident) and some left early. We went across the street afterwards for a bite to eat. But I do hope that you can join up with us at the next lecture. Thank you for the pictures!!!

We have some driver and also some people who would like to go but need a ride. Is it possible for those who need a ride to find a driver to Pasadena? Typically it takes about an hour to 90 minutes to get there from Orange County on a Friday night. If you need a ride, please let James or San know. They can be contacted by clicking on their name and then sending an email. It will be a lecture you won't want to miss and please look for the red/white Meetup sign either in the lobby or in the lecture hall. Also - you can call or text me at[masked]

Does there happen to be anyone in O.C. that is looking for someone to go with and help pay for gas? I would of course meet you wherever is most convenient for you.

I'm working near Lake Forest now, so I think driving to Pasadena on Friday evening is just too ambitious for me. The lecture sounds very interesting, but I will probably have to pass for the sake of my sanity.

Just to be clear, this is a lecture about the Planck Space Telescope. This is not a star party where telescopes are provided. That will be coming up at another time. :-)
