For anyone who is coming in early for the festival, I have up to three spots left for an Upper Uncompahgre trip for Wednesday. (6 ppl max, I currently have 3) We'll meet at my campsite at Amphitheater at 7:45am, iron out the final details/carpools, and the plan is to leave my campsite at 8am.
We are leaving early in the morning to avoid the common afternoon storms and so we will be back by 3pm, so we can help Greg set up the tent.
Note, this is one of the bigger water flow canyons in Ouray; so sorry, but no beginners on this one. You should be very comfortable on rappel, and should have at least done a few class C canyons as well. It's a blast though; it's many people's favorite canyon as there are jumps, slides, etc. (I just checked, and the flows are still a little bigger than normal. It's definitely doable, as I was there a few weeks ago, and the flow is a little lower than when I was last out there, and the flow back then was sporty and fun. ;)
Make sure you have a full wetsuit, 3mm full at the minimum; and 5mm full is recommended. Bring a whistle (without a cork ball in it), and a baseball cap to wear under your helmet (to keep an air pocket from the water.) When you RSVP, private message me with three things:
1) Tell me what canyoneering, and especially class C canyon experience you have.
2) Tell me a good number to contact you on Tuesday; preferably something that has voicemail, so I can leave you my campsite info in case you can't answer when I call.
3) Tell me if you have gear to bring; i.e. 120' rope (preferably 9mm in a bag), webbing and/or quicklinks.
I'm shooting to get a walk-in campsite on Tuesday at Amphitheater. So, my plan will be to call you on Tuesday, to tell you the campsite number (after we know it; likely Tues afternoon); so you can meet us there on Wednesday morning.
For all those that can't make this one, I look forward to seeing/meeting you in the evening!
