Oak creek canyon

I'd be willing to lead a group of folks down some or all of Oak Creek (it is in 3 sections; upper, middle, and lower, and we can decide how much of it we want to do).

I would say that Oak creek is advanced beginner to intermediate depending on the sections we choose. There is a lot of getting wet so plan accordingly for gear. You'll probably be happiest with a wetsuit and a drytop! We can carpool up to the trailhead and drop a vehicle for shuttle (or walk back up to the cars at the end, it's not super far). The access is up a hiking trail and takes 1-1.5 hours or so depending on which sections of the canyon we choose to do.

I DO NOT HAVE A ROPE! This trip can only happen if someone else is willing to supply the rope (I will double check what length is needed and post that info in the comments later). A rope is on my list of things I want to buy but it hasn't happened yet! But I'll bring some quicklinks and webbing for any anchor repair we need to do.

Jeff took over for Ruth when we split up. He did a great job of making sure we always followed full safety rules and did not try and rush through to get out quicker. tks to both of them for a great day. And his head lamp was spectacular.

All 3 would be great! See you all at the
    park tomorrow am.
I can position my car as a shuttle car
down below. I can only fit 2 or 3
people in it to retrieve the car at the
    higher parking spot.

Also, you WILL get wet. There generally isn't a ton of water but you will be RIGHT in the waterfall on many of the rappels. Come prepared to be wet and cold!

Ok folks! Here is some Beta on Oak creek. Let me know what you think you will be game for on Friday!

    Cars:
I have a pickup that seats 6, more if people sit in the back. We can do a car shuttle to avoid having to hike back up to the truck at the end of the canyon if someone is willing to park at the lower trailhead.

    Approach hike:
The hike climbs steadily and can be hot when the sun is out. I'm ok with taking it slow-ish.

    * LOWER oak is a 1 mile approach.

    * MIDDLE oak is a 2 mile approach.

    * UPPER oak is an 2.2 mile approach (plus an unspecified 'short distance' it isn't much distance from the start of middle oak but if I remember it's fairly steep for that last bit.

    Rappels: (DC = down climb)
    *UPPER oak: 7 rappels (40', DC, 75' w/2 tiers, DC, 75', 70', 80' w/ 2 tiers, 25', 25')

    *MIDDLE oak: 7 rappels (60', 50', 50', DC, 80', DC, 30', DC, 80', DC, 50' w/ free hanging rappel!)

    *LOWER oak: 5 rappels: (90' w/3 tiers, DC, 170', DC, 40', 30', DR or short rappel, 30')

Awesome! Looks like we're filled up! When I get home tonight I'll double check the guide book for the specifics of how many rappels there are in each section and so on and we can figure out which and how many sections we want to do! Can't wait!

Ruth. I am with a couple people from Cali. I got to check with them and will do final confirmation although doing a canyon with the legendary Christopher Brennen would also be awesome:)

Can you call me at[masked]regarding this trip?

I'd like to limit this group to a total of 4 canyoneers. If we decide to do only lower oak we could bump that up to 6. If we do multiple sections there are a lot of rappels to move a group through so a small group would be better.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
