Sauvie Island Ramble (25 miles)

The Ride: A 25 mile flat loop around Sauvie Island.  Meet and greet at 9:30 a.m.  Wheels roll at 10:00 a.m. sharpThis is a social ride where nobody will get dropped and we'll wait for everyone at the turns. But, please make sure you fit the target rider profile, and that your gear is in good working order.

Target Riders: Casual cyclists who are comfortable with the distance (25 miles) and pace (13-16 mph on the flats).

Rain Policy: There is a chance of rain in the forecast.  If it is coming down too hard ahead of the ride, I will cancel. If it is only overcast or raining lightly I will stick with the plan, but feel free to bail if you are nervous about the conditions.

Out Spoke'n Rules of the Road:

When you joined Out Spoke'n you agreed to the Waiver of Liability (you can see it under the Pages tab at the top of the web page).  Under that Waiver, no one is responsible for your personal safety or that of your equipment but you. Your RSVP means that you continue to acknowledge and accept that responsibility. For everyone's sake, please ride safely.

Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request.

Always bring plenty of water, snacks for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube that FITS, a pump or, at a minimum, a threaded CO2 cartridge.  Sunscreen, a credit card and a little cash to buy refreshments and to reimburse a good Samaritan who might have to provide you with anything like a tube ($5) or a CO2 cartridge ($3).

Mandatory for all riders: Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Please represent us well.

All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help.

Roger, I went to load my bike in the car & the back tire is flat. I am not so good @ changing flats. So I surely wil not bee there by 9:30 am. May not even make 10:00 am departure time. Maybe I can catch up with you on the Sauvie Island roads. I am slow @ this chNging stuff since I am a newbie.

John: Thanks for the generosity of your offer. I finally did get the thing replaced with a new tube. It cost me an hour of time. And I only strived @ Sauvie Island @ 11:00 am. Did manage to get in 26 miles down there ( finished. @ 1:45 pm). But from the list of the birds you saw I can see that Roger's route was definitely superior to the one I made up. Would loved to have been with the rest of you. It was a nice day to ride. And what a marvelous place!

Thank you ladies and gents. Kudos to Roger for setting this one up. A nice short ride with 'typically' beautiful Oregon scenery and late fall weather. The Geese, Trumpeter Swans, Sand Hill Cranes and Hawks were an added treat.

Special thanks to John Milliken who set me straight on some of the ins and outs of riding across Sauvie Island this time of year. Based on John's excellent advice, I modified the route to keep us off of Oak Island Rd.
