Hudson Highlands is famous for Breakneck Ridge (for the intrepid ones among us, been there, done that) and Clarence Fahnestock state park, our destination for the day. But let's be honest with ourselves, the leaves will have dropped by then so what we need is a hot drink afterward.
An outdoor enthusiast's delight, it has many trails that can be combined to create circuit hikes. Added bonus, dogs are permitted on trails on a leash of not more than 10 feet.
Not all is nice and dandy ... we need cars to get there (we can pick up a cab at Cold Spring but it would not give us the freedom to do more if we want). For this reason, get on the waiting list AND on the transportation sheet to register. *** Attendance will depend on number of cars - all on wait list till cars are organized ***
What will we do: After meeting no later than 10:30am, we will pick a few trails that we will hike (if anyone has recommendation, don't hesitate) and have lunch. Most trails have rocky sections and are moderately strenuous. In term of difficulty, for those who joined before, I would expect it to be similar to the AT hike (the hilly wooded area). Afterward, we will decide if we want to hit Beacon for a stroll, or another village for a beer or a hot cocoa to finish the day.
We would expect to be back in NYC by no later than 7pm however note that if you have a time constrain you should take in consideration we can't ensure return time due to traffic and change in plans.
Bring: lunch, hiking shoes (or sneakers), water, camera, best attitude.
Vehicle Entrance Fee: $7/car (cost to be shared by passengers in each car).
Drivers indicate their departure place and time, passengers join as practical or take the train arriving Cold Spring at 10:01am for pick up (once confirmed spot in a car - still need to put your name in a car).
