Car camping and Hiking - Bishop/Mammoth Sept 6-9

  • Sep 6, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This will be a cross Meetup with Hiking with Fido Inland Empire. I had the pleasure of meeting Beverly and her dog Jake who is the Organizer of this group on our hike up in Wrightwood.
We decided to plan a very fun camping and hiking trip with our dogs in beautiful Mammoth Lakes or Bishop area.

We require socialization skills for all dogs and they must have basic commands and strongly listen and obey when called as they will be off leash at times.

We are posting this early so we can get some idea on a head count for a campground

Many more details to come as we research campgrounds and hiking trails in that area.

Any suggestions on hikes in that area would be very helpful.

Thank you to Beverly this was a really great outing. I have 2 very tired dogs who had such fun with the pack this weekend. It was very nice to meet Suzanne and Gary, a very fun and interesting couple and their trio, got a great didgeridoo concert . :) And Shantelle and Steve and their cute dogs.

Chief had to have a full set of x-rays to figure out his recent limp, so I'd better bow out until I get to the bottom of this :...(

    Hi Everyone!!

Mammoth is almost here! Can you feel the excitement? I know I am so excited, I think I'm amping up my pups. I will be bringing Jake, but I am also bringing a pup that I have failed-to-foster...and now I am keeping. Her name is Nan...or Nanni...short for Nanook (which I hated).

I have reserved sites 44 and 54 for our groups - Outdoor Adventures and Hiking with Fido. They are diagonal to each other, but there is no site next to 44, so I thought we could just meet in the middle. Check in time for the sites is 2pm on Friday. Check out time is by 12 noon on Monday. Please note there is a $5 car fee, per day.

While in the campground, all dogs should be on leash, in a crate or a tie-out, or at the very least, not running around disturbing other occupants. I am SOOOOO excited. I'm bringing a couple bottles of red wine for Saturday night's potluck! Though we will probably be drinking them out of dixie cups. LOL.

Can't wait to meet everyone! See you all there!

Here is my cel phone if you need to text me: (310) 292-2209. Please let me know you are with the meet up, so I don't ignore your msg ;-)

Oh, don't forget to bring WATER. Not sure, but someone told me the water there is not exactly potable. I am also bringing a percolator for coffee in the morning. I know someone from the Hiking with Fido group is bringing coffee and creamer.

Does anyone know if we can have campfires? The forest service isn't allowing them in Sequoia National Park. It's a bit of a let down with no campfire, but much easier to see the stars.

No worries. Gary loves to camp, and is an awesome barbecue chef. We might be able to get him to cook up his signature tri-tip! It's deelish!

Hi everyone. Just FYI, I know this group says 5 people attending. In total with the other group, there will be 9 total. Suzanne, your husband will be the only guy. I hope that doesn't dissuade him from joining you. I am so excited I am bursting at the seams!!

Hi Everyone! It's about a week and a half before the camping trip. I can't stand the excitement!! How about a potluck on Saturday night. The girls signed up on Hiking with Fido are planning this.

I'm thinking of pasta, but will cook the pasta at home, so all I have to do is warm it up. Remember, we will be at higher altitude, so it will take longer for things to cook. The best way that I have found to work with this is to prepare food beforehand and bring it.

I will also be bringing a coffee percolator in case anyone wants to partake in a morning coffee ritual. I can't live without the stuff!

    Mammoth...Here we come!!!!

just returned from a week of camping at Mammoth. LOVE IT!! tons of great hikes to do there long or short, hard or easy, and plenty of side trips if one were so inclined.

Has anyone been up to the Twin Lakes Campground in Mammouth? Resviews look good. It is outside of tow, they have a little store and a shower facility.

I'm definitely interested. I need to check my schedule before I completely commit. This is Labor Day Weekend?

    May 26, 2013

    • Beverly

It is the weekend following Labor day. We thought there would be less traffic, less people on the trails, that weekend.
