We are joining the Friends of the LA River (FoLAR) in their 25th Annual Great LA River CleanUp. Let's get to know our river.
Rains in the winter bring trash down the river from the San Gabriel foothills. Some of the trash makes it out to sea, but much of it stays in the river. Tujunga Wash is one of the largest natural flood plains in southern California. Haines Canyon is a concretized channel that opens into a riparian zone.
LOCATION: Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority property behind homes where Haines Cyn dumps water into Big Tujunga Wash. West of Oro Vista St. North of Wentworth.
DIRECTIONS: Take the 210 Freeway and exit Sunland that will become Foothill, make a left on Oro Vista, make a left on Wentworth. Street Parking only on Wentworth, Westcott or Tujunga Valley Street. Entrance on Wentworth. Look for the FoLAR CleanUp Signs
PARKING: Street parking only. Signage will walk you in to the conserved parcel.
WHAT TO BRING:
1. Signed Outdoor Afro waiver (Click on "More" in the menu bar above and select "Files." Download and print the waiver. Don't forget it at home.
2. Wear work clothes, long pants, boots or sturdy shoes.
3. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, but if you have them bring work gloves and/or a 5 gallon bucket.
4. Bring your reusable water bottle with enough water to stay hydrated.
