Urban Hike to a San Francisco Farmer's Market!

Hey Outdoor Afros!

Sticking around for 4th of July weekend? Interested in a transit accessible moderate hike in San Francisco? Join Outdoor Afro for an exploration of some of the city's hidden wild spaces!

Hiking Route:
Check out the map below or Click on the following link to learn about our hiking route: http://goo.gl/maps/HZ3Td

We will start at the Castro Muni Station (meet above ground at the Harvey Milk Plaza) and make our way up to Corona Heights. From there we will walk through the ashbury heights neighborhood through Tank Hill to Mt. Sutro, one of San Francisco's most beautiful and hidden natural spaces. After exploring this lush green jungle, we will head to the Inner Sunset Farmer's market for some music and food. From there, we will catch the N Judah Muni back to our starting point.

Hike Level: MODERATE. Some parts of this hike will have steep grade, including the beginning of the hike. Be prepared for a 4.5 mile hike. There will be changing terrain, including sidewalks and dirt paths.

What to Bring:
comfortable hiking shoes with good ankle support
hiking poles (if you use them)
reusable bags for the farmers market
water
$2 cash for the Muni ride back to our starting point

Punctuality:

The Inner Sunset Farmer's Market ends at 1 pm, so it is important we start this hike promptly at 9 am to allow time in the market.

Directions to our starting point:
You can take Muni to Castro Station.
or
You can take Bart to 16th Street and walk the 1 mile to the Castro Muni Station.

We will meet above ground at the Harvey Milk Plaza.

Parking:
Public transit is strongly encouraged. San Francisco now enforces metered parking on Sundays. If you'd like drive, you should plan on arriving with plenty of time to search for a parking spot.

Release
Please make sure to bring a SIGNED copy of the outdoor afro release so that we can start the hike on time

Very nice. We saw some beautiful areas of SF, residential and green space. And I didn't know about Mount Sutro, its size and beauty. The farmers market was small, but nice. Thanks again Zoe for a great outing.

    • Zoë P.

Hi Constance- great question! As with all of our events, we welcome outdoor afros of all ages- just be sure that your little one can walk or be carried 4.5 miles, including some steep hills!

      June 24, 2013

  • Linda T.

    Is this hike for beginners?

    1 · June 23, 2013

    • Zoë P.

Hi Linda! Thanks for the question. This hike is for anyone who's interested- beginners and experts! It will be a 4.5 mile hike and there will be some steep parts. We will be keeping a steady pace. If you are in moderate shape you should be fine.
