Explore the Bonita Lighthouse & The NIKE Missile Site at Marin Headlands.

Join us as we are lead on a tour by park rangers of the Bonita Lighthouse and the NIKE Missile site.

During the tense years from 1953 to 1979, the United States Army built and operated close to 300 Nike missile firing batteries in the United States. These missile sites were emplaced as the last line of defense against Soviet bombers.

This valuable historical resource is the only restored Nike missile site in the entire country. It's a great chance for you to see the tools of the Cold War up close.

Can someone explain Photo #1 for me. My first reaction was concern for the Brother's safety :) LOL!

I know I'm getting a bit carried away with this, but had to look up the rest of the California sites. What do you know...more at Lake Chabot, San Pablo, San Rafael, San Ramon, Newark, Pacifica, San Bruno and Angel Island. Complete U.S. list - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li...

Thank you to Teresa organizing and to our park rangers for such an informative day. I too would have loved a sit down with the group and maybe even a longer hike.

Loved it! Would have only added an optional group breakfast in Sausalito afterward.

Yes, great idea. I would have liked sitting down and getting to an even more social interaction, learning about folks. If nothing else, names in person!

A bit overkill for some perhaps, but now interesting given this morning's tour - http://nikemissile.org/video/TheNikeHerculesStory.shtml

Thanks everybody for coming out. It was so much fun and scary at the same time, learning about our military history. I look forward to seeing you all on the next adventure. Ranger Al asked me to make sure to invite you all out for another one of his tours.

Theresa, just wondering about what time we'll finish the hike and tour. Have another stop in the afternoon and I'd like to plan accordingly. Thanks!

Unfortunately, our plans have changed and we are unable to attend. Updated our RSVP, so hopefully that will open up a spot for others. Hope to see you next time....Enjoy!

Are dogs welcome? Mine is a little 7 pounder. And is there an approximate end time? Thanks.

    September 13, 2013

    • Teresa B.

Sorry, but dogs are not allowed on this trip.

      September 13, 2013

We should be done no later than 1:30. However, you will be close enough to your vehicle that if you need to leave earlier, you can.

Sorry everyone, but dogs will not be allowed on this trip.

We will meet at the beginning of the lighthouse trail. Rangers will guide us in. Please be on time as the rangers will not permit entry to the lighthouse, after our departure. Please give enough time to submit waivers. There is a small hike to the lighthouse. Please wear appropriate shoes.

Hi Teresa: Are small dogs welcome and do you know the approximate end time? Thanks.
