FOURTH OF JULY ON THE MAURICE RIVER. by Vicki S.

Meet at Garden Road, south side. We paddle down river to meet & cross Union Lake.  This is NOT a “lake only” trip, & requires paddling in current, under and around river obstacles. Pack lunch and hydration; also bug and sun protection and the lake offers no cover. Leader: Vicki S.  (8 5 6)-341**3901 or ravingwriter    @gmail.com      [masked]

Was advised that the river was a little too dangerous for a non experienced paddler. Looking forward to the next time.

THIS TRIP IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FIRST TIMERS ON THIS RIVER. YOU MUST BE AN ADVANCED LEVEL EXPERIENCED PADDLER FOR THIS TRIP.

Paddlers for this trip must have experience on the Maurice. Current conditions are not favorable for first timers.

How long is this trip? Thanks

Marianne, generally you can figure that a paddler in motion can travel an average of 2 miles an hour. This trip is about 9 miles, but no trip can precisely estimate the time it will take to complete because of variables such as paddlers that are not keeping an average pace. Additionally I am not taking any persons for this trip who have not paddled this river before because of the extreme water conditions.

We will have high water and fast current thru some fairly low branches and heavily wooded area. Please access your skill level in preparation for this trip.. Pack a dry bag as you would for cold water paddling, with rain jacket and pants and fleece dry clothes. Life vest are required to be worn. Ropes and whistles are good to have as are bilge pump and sponge. Long sleeves and gloves to protect from sticker bushes and poison ivy.
