Camp at the Federal campground on Assateaque Island. Enjoy a relaxing weekend on the beach along with some light hiking, kayaking and an optional group dinner in town, Fiddlers Festival or Kite festival are options. A planned full moon paddle under the Harvest moon is planned. Assateague Island is managed by three official park agencies. Assateague Island National Seashore is cared for and managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Department of Natural Resources. In 1962, Assateague Island National Seashore was established for the purpose of protecting Assateague Island. Assateague is vital for resting and feeding migratory shorebirds and other abundant bird species. Over 320 species of birds can be found at Assateague Island. The vast expanse of pristine beaches and sand dunes is exhilarating on the ocean side. The legendary wild herds of ponies dot the landscape on the bay side of Assateague.
ADDED ACTIVITY : Since we will be there with a full moon we will have a Moonlight kayak- please bring a whistle and flashlight/headlamp.
