ASSATEAGUE ISLAND CAMP AND BEACH WEEKEND by Paul Serdiuk

Camp at the Federal campground on Assateaque Island. Enjoy a relaxing weekend on the beach along with some light hiking, kayaking and an optional group dinner in town, Fiddlers Festival or Kite festival are options. A planned full moon  paddle under the Harvest moon is planned. Assateague Island is managed by three official park agencies. Assateague Island National Seashore is cared for and managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Department of Natural Resources. In 1962, Assateague Island National Seashore was established for the purpose of protecting Assateague Island. Assateague is vital for resting and feeding migratory shorebirds and other abundant bird species. Over 320 species of birds can be found at Assateague Island. The vast expanse of pristine beaches and sand dunes is exhilarating on the ocean side. The legendary wild herds of ponies dot the landscape on the bay side of Assateague.

ADDED ACTIVITY : Since we will be there with a full moon we  will have a Moonlight kayak- please bring a whistle and flashlight/headlamp.

Contact leader to confirm trip participation and campground information. Participants will be responsible for their own campsite reservations. We are in Bayside Loop C. Leader: Paul Serdiuk (6 0 9) 462+3593 evenings only orpis1 @cccnj.net

Assateague's north entrance is at the end of Route 611, eight miles south of Ocean City, MD.

I was at the Island for a full week. The best part of my visit was when you all showed up. So great to see you all. Friday night going into town with Fran, Joanne and Adrianne to have dinner and to see the fiddlers was really nice. Saturday night under the canopy with good food and friends was priceless. Sunday morning I needed some help and I cannot thank Paul and Doug enough for manning up and being gallant. I have a new found respect for Paul and plan to show it.

I have plenty of room on my waterfront site on loop B for anyone who wants to come on down.

Paul... I am not seeking anything. Was just wondering if I could join the camp. However I will not be able to do so now anyway. Thank you for your noticing my comments. Hope you folks have a wonderful time.

Just want to inform the group of other kayaking options in addition to Assateague Island. My wife and I own and operate a kayak ecotour company 3 miles from Assateague on a tidal creek. If there are high winds on Assateague, our place would be a viable and enjoyable option. You can find more about us at www.ayerscreekadventures.com. Have a great time this weekend!

Hi Steve, my husband and I paddled on Ayers creek a couple of years ago. We appreciated your hospitality. You gave us a map and directed us to a place where we could stop and eat. Beautiful area . with many birds. Maybe we will see you this weekend. Trina Pratz

Alright, trying this again. I really missed all of you last year since I was unable to get a site for the weekend, so this year I booked early for a full week on a waterfront site on Loop B.
