The weather is not going to be good for this trip so I am making the decision to cancel. It is supposed to be rain overhead all day.

at present time weather reports are predicting heavy thunderstorms for Sunday. I do not recommend paddling 6 hours in storms and will cancel.

Paddlers should assess any time constraints before committing to this trip. Average paddlers can go about 2 miles an hour, so please be aware that the trip length. With 6 hours of paddling required plus shuttle time, lunch and break time, will put this trip at finishing around 5 pm. It could go later if there are any unforeseen delays. There is not any place to exit this river before the take out at Pleasant Mills.

What's the probability of encountering posion ivy on this paddle?

    July 24, 2013

    • Vicki S.

Actually, poison ivy hates the pine barrens and stays away from the acidic soil there. So, as rivers go, you are pretty safe on the Mullica. The put in has some places where it can be hiding, but after that you should be okay.

The Mullica is really a "trio"of trips. Part 1 is tight and twisty. Part 2 is kind of open but also under shade and hidden drops over log jams and beaver dams. Part 3 under bridges and past sandy beaches. Its a marathon, not a sprint.

Please pack to have fun for 6 hours of paddling, with breaks compatible with a water activity. A dry bag with clothing and rain gear "just in case." Life vests always required to be worn. Sunglasses, safety whistle, throw rope, bilge pump, contingency items.
