  • Mar 8-9: Backpacking up to High Point from the East: A couple of years ago, we backpacked up to High Point in NJ from the Southeast - now we’ll climb it from the other side! We’ll start near the state NY/NJ border on route 284, and slowly ascend through the Great Valley of the Appalachians to the High Point Shelter – 8.2 miles. The next day, we’ll climb up to the High Point monument and visit the state park (1.6 miles) before heading home! We should have everyone out by the middle of the morning, plenty of time to hit a diner on the way home! Moderate hike, though there is a significant climb at the end to the top of the monument. Limited to 16 backpackers. Hike Leader Kevin Drevik (856)[masked] or [masked].

Note: Event has been cancelled. The trail is too full of snow/ice and I don't want anyone to get a twisted ankle (or worse)

I have hiked on the AT before but always alone and I went very slowly at my pace--Must you keep up with the group or can you fall a little behind and walk at a slower pace---I would not want anyone to be waiting on me so let me know

Me too I hiked/backpacked the AT in Ga and only managed 1 to 1 1/2 miles per hour need lots of breaks-- I was afraid I would hold the group up and don't mind hiking alone anyway ---so I always fall behind--don't even care if I fall behind the sweep as long as we all meet up at night is good with me

I never have weekend plans so, of course, I have a family event this one. I want an encore!
