Ride of Silence

The Ride of Silence is a world-wide, silent, slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph/20 kph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured. In collaboration with Medford Township and Wheelies Bicycles we will be observing the 10th anniversary of the Ride of Silence on May 15th at 7:00 PM.

The Ride route is 8.3 miles and will be starting and ending at Freedom Park in Medford. Following the ride there will be a short vigil to honor those that have been injured or killed over the past 10 years nation wide.

So please make it a point to set aside the time to participate on this special evening. As a fellow rider so was injured by a vehicle it will greatly appreciated it. Please RSVP.  For additional information contact

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
