3 Days Catalina Island Labor Day Weekend Hawaiian Style

SOLD OUT!

join us on a trip to beautiful Catalina Island for your own private paradise vacation. This year we will celebrate our summertime getaway with a Hawaiian /Polynesian theme. Think surfboards, flowers, tropical fruit, palm trees, umbrellas in your drinks, surfers, warm weather, hula dancers, and nothing but fun fun fun!!! Get out your Hawaiian shirts and skirts and bring them along because we want to see them this year --loud and proud.

A fantastic 3-day Catalina Island Hawaiian Theme vacation awaits you twenty-six miles across the ocean at Camp Emerald Bay (this year also known as Camp Waimea Bay). If you like to mix endless fun activities, Hawaiian style, and great people with a beautiful coastline along with crystal blue water, then look no further! This trip has been occurring annually for over 15 years now and it gets better every year.

Activities: Your weekend boasts a full schedule of both day and nighttime organized activities. Daytime fun includes: leader led hikes, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, volleyball, sunbathing, scavenger hunt, fun competitions, optional non-Sierra Club sponsored Scuba diving* and plenty more. Nighttime activities include: happy hour, karaoke, optional singles’ mixers, dance lessons with expert teachers, dancing to hip tunes played by a DJ, games, campfire hosted by a professional musician, or simply relaxing and stargazing. You might even find yourself at a Luau.

Boat Transportation: We will be chartering two boats that will depart from and return to Long Beach. The boats will depart on Saturday morning (31st) and return Monday (2nd) afternoon. We are still in the process of determining exact departure/return times.

Accommodations: Choose between pre-assembled platform tents (wood floor, canvas walls/roof, cots with mattress --typically hold up to two persons with no setup required) or share rustic cabins (single beds for up to 8 persons) with friends. Cabins are same sex. Couples can push together two cots in the platform tents. There are plenty of hot showers and restrooms, as well as other creature comforts. Plug in for electrical items available in cabins.

Arrangements can be made to share a cabin with groups of friends. If you don’t have a roommate in mind, no worries! You will easily meet people on the boat ride over or just pick a place on your own.

Food: Great food is prepared daily by experienced camp staff. Breakfast typically includes eggs, pancakes, cereal, and much more. Lunches are simple, usually either a sandwich bar or hot food. Dinners may include chicken one night and steak the other with veggie options; and of course we always have dessert. You will not be disappointed.

Who should come: This trip is open to everyone over the age of 21; singles and couples are welcome. The group size is typically around 300 people and the age range varies from 20s to 50s on this well attended trip. We set-up many activities to help people make new friends. Many of our participants are first timers who often come on their own, but leave with many new friends.Team Events: Typically we have some organized competitions for those of you who wish to partake as well as some other surprises.

Trip fee includes: Round trip boat transportation, camp & landing fees, platform tent w/bed and mattress or cabins, catered food (Saturday lunch through Monday lunch), activities including: kayaks, snorkeling equipment rental, hiking, dance lessons, and much more.

The two chartered boats for our trip are sold out (298 people); but we have just procured 40 seats on the public ferry (Catalina Express) departing out of San Pedro (different location from the other boats). The approximate times are: departure on August 31 at 8 am. and returns Monday September 2 at 5 pm. The boat will take us near the camp and we will arrange for a water taxi to camp. To cover our extra costs for the tickets: all trip prices have increased by $20 (Sorry) – effective immediately. These seats will go fast - no additonal seats will be added.

And of course, I'm so looking forward to see/meet everybody! :)
Ohhh, beauty of life! We work hard, but we gotta reward ourselves, too! It's a Labor Day weekend, after all. Laborers deserve to play, relax and have fun! (*_*)

I tried to sign up and pay for this trip using the link above but I don't have an account. I am a Sierra Club member of Los Angeles Chapter. Is there another way I can pay to secure my spot on this trip? Please advise. Thank you!

    May 15, 2013

    • Leonie

Yes. I figured I had to create an account with that link/organization (sc2030), so I did. Now, I'm waiting for the approval of my "membership" with that organization. I guess after I'm approved as a member, then I can go ahead and pay for the trip. I just thought, why can't we just pay through paypal? Why do we have to go through that link, create an account and be a member thereof, before we can pay for the catalina trip? Not that I did not want to join that group, it's just forcing everybody to join the sc2030 group before they can pay for the Catalina trip.

      May 16, 2013

    • ed

Ya, dont' pay here. Pay at link once you get approved.

      May 16, 2013

  • Leonie

When I clicked that link above, it took me to the site (of course).
Then I scrolled down & clicked the button "Make Reservation".
Then it asked me for my Username and Password. I don't have those because I'm not a member of that group (20s & 30s section) although I AM A SIERRA CLUB MEMBER.
So I figured, ok, I'm going to create an account and be a member (free membership anyway!).
When I was creating my account, part of the information needed was the Sierra Club ID number. So I supplied that information along with other information requested.
Now I'm waiting for my membership request to be approved.

Question: If for example, I don't get approved as a member of the "20s & 30s section" group, does that mean I can't join the Catalina Trip? The reason why I'm asking is because there's no other way to pay for the Catalina trip without becoming a member of this 20s & 30s group first.

Is anybody else having this issue? If you're already a member of 20s&30s group, maybe not.

    May 16, 2013

    • ed

Once you get approved, you'll be able to go. The only way people won't get approved is because it is full--still open right now. Give Ron some time. He's in charge. Write him if it is taking too long.
