Help the Homeless

Inspired from this meetup event, here's another opportunity to help those in need.

(If this conflicts with a Friday night hike, feel free to delete this).

On Friday night and Saturday morning, kits will be assembled for the homeless throughout Los Angeles. On Saturday afternoon, the kits will then be distributed.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, volunteers help with putting together bags (or backpacks) filled with goodies & other essentials for the homeless.  Once the items are ready, other volunteers go out to the streets (e.g. Skid Row), shelters, and elsewhere to give out the items.

Many other people will be there, so since it can get crowded, this isn't ideal for "meeting up" per se.  However, if a few members want to work together, talking & socializing while helping out is possible.

The Giving Spirit's scheduled time for Friday night is 6:00pm - 10:30pm, but b/c of traffic, 7:00pm seems better.  Feel free to arrive or leave at any time.  And feel free to help on Saturday as well.

Sorry, we won't be able to make it tonight. Please let us know when there will be opportunities like this again. I would love to volunteer and I would love to bring my 6yr old son with me so he gets to experience early. Have fun you guys tonight! (*_*)

Hi! Is it okay to bring my 6yr-old son with me? I can leave him at a friend of mine until 8:30pm but I thought, why not introduce him to these kinds of activities as early as now? He can help put stuff in bags! We can also deliver stuff that night before we leave.

I've worked in downtown LA since 2001 so I know the area and I know skidrow. I want my son to get involved in "giving back" however possible as early as now.

I would love to help also on Saturday but he has dance recital so we won't be able to make it :(. Hopefully, next time there's opportunity to do something like this again, I would love to do it!

If it's not advisable to bring my son, that's perfectly fine and I totally understand. I just wanted to know first, just in case it's okay. Please advise. Thank you!

Yes, children can help too (with adult supervision). This is a very family-friendly event. Waiver forms will be required.

Friday night is for assembling the kits for the homeless. The location is at a church in Brentwood. In their gym is where an assembly line will be set up for putting together the kits/bags. Adults & kids volunteer.

These photos will give a better idea of what goes on:
