CicLAvia ~ Heart of L.A. Bicycle Ride ~ Mariachi Plaza Food/Music

CicLAvia - Heart of LA returns to the streets of Los Angeles that started it all as we explore downtown Los Angeles on bike. CicLAvia is the temporary opening of Los Angeles streets to all free from traffic interconnecting a portion of the city.

YOU MUST WEAR A BICYCLE HELMET TO JOIN OUR GROUP.

Route:

Check the route for CicLAvia through downtown Los Angeles by CLICKING HERE.

You can join us and ride as a group (or you can ride on your own.) There are many interesting happenings along the way.

Itinerary:

8:30 am Meet at the MacArthur Park Hub at the REI repair tent

9:15 am Begin the bike ride

12:00 pm Meet for lunch at the Mariachi Plaza area

1:30 pm Our Meetup is over after lunch but we may continue to ride as a group or you can ride solo to you final destination which may or may not be back at the MacArthur Park Hub

4:00 pm Roads reopen to car traffic

Usually there's live music and all kinds of crazy happenings along the way, so it will be a slow paced ride with plenty of stops. It is approximately 7.5 miles each way so if we cover every finger of the route that would total about 15 miles with very little elevation gain and there will be no car traffic and at a easy pace.

What To Bring:

Bring a bike lock for when we stop for lunch/music/food trucks etc. Also bring spare tubes for your tires in case you get a flat, a helmet, gloves, windbreaker, water bottle, power bar or snacks.

Check the weather the night before http://www.weather.com if it forecasts rain, the Meetup ride may be cancelled however you are welcome to go on your own.

Where to Meet:

The meeting point is at the MacArthur Park Hub at the REI vendor tent at 8:30 am. They have tire pumps if you need air and bike stands if you need any last minute repair.

One way to get there is to take the Metro Red Line train to MacArthur Park to avoid parking hassles. Please arrive by 8:30 am and then we will first explore the Hub together before we begin our ride at about 9:15am. We will let the initial riders go first and get out of our way so that we might be able to ride at a reasonable pace.

Check the cell phone in the RSVP questions and write it down now so you can contact us if you need to.

Leave Your Car At Home:

You can get to the MacArthur Park Station via the Red Line, Expo or Blue Line. You are allowed to bring your bike onto the trains. At one end of every car is an area for bikes/wheelchairs and this is the best area to board the train but the Metro will be jammed with bikes, so board any way you can. If you are in the SFV, there's free parking lots at the NoHo and Universal City Metro Stations and this is by far the best option to get to the meeting point.

CicLAvia FAQ

FOOD OPTIONS:

Plan is to have lunch at the Mariachi Plaza. They have live mariachi music and dancing, a small farmers market and a food vendor bbq'ing whole chickens pollo loco style that looked amazing! They also have a nice tamale/pupusa restaurant that has some tables and chairs so you could dine with a little civility. Lunch food options will abound so I'm not going to set our lunch plans in stone.  Other options are Mama's Tamales or Langer's Deli for the best pastrami sandwich in town.

From the CicLAvia Website:

With five hugely successful CicLAvias under our belt, we are currently preparing for the next round of CicLAvia events in 2013: CicLAvia - To the Sea on April 21; CicLAvia - Iconic Wilshire Boulevard on June 23; and CicLAvia - Heart of LA on October 6.

CicLAvia makes the streets  safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike. There are activities along the route. Shop owners and restaurants are encouraged to open their doors to people along the CicLAvia.

CicLAvia is open to the public and free of charge. Registration is not required and there is no starting or ending point along the route. From 9 am - 4 pm CicLAvia offers car-free, open streets and participants can join the fun at any point along the route.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
