Lets celebrate Spring with an early (or not so early) morning walk.
Let's explore the Aiken Arboretum now that Spring is here. Many trees are budding and others are blooming already. We will walk about a couple of miles along Colleton St. and other side streets of the historic part of Aiken. Let's see how much damage the ice storm caused to this beautiful part of town.
The arboretum has a new feature: using your cellular phone you can access information about the specimen of interest. More than 100 trees with interpretive plaques.
Park at the south side of the library, by the children's playground. We will walk along Colleton all the way to Beaufort St. then work our way back to York St., stopping to learn more about the trees that we will encounter. More than 100 exotic and native species of trees, donated and cared for by Bob McCartney of Woodlanders, Inc. and many volunteers in the last 30 years.
This will be a good 2 mile walk. Bring water.
