Sunday hike series.

  • Apr 6, 2014 · 11:00 AM
  • Mortensrud T-ban (metro) station

Hei alle/hi everyone, following a great catch up and chat with Anita, Jennifer, Francois and new-comer Mike, we've decided on a not-too-difficult route that should keep us all interested and engaged, with some good photo opportunities.

DNT mentioned that the walking tracks in the Nord- and Lillomarka are generally still gjørmete (a great Norwegian word meaning muddy/swampy/slushy - generally not pleasant), so we're keeping to the Østmarka for the time being.

Meet up at Mortensrud station by 11.00. There are metros (line 3) and buses (nr. 74) arriving at 11.46 and 11.01, so we'll be looking to leave by 11.10 latest.

From Mortensrud we'll walk east to the Østmarkskapellet, then head further into the forest, coming to the Elvåga lakes, (north and south) we'll follow the path between them, and travel north along the eastern side of Nord-Elvåga, eventually coming to Mariholtet. From Mariholtet we'll head west again, coming around the top of Nøklevann and exit to Ulsrud Metro (where we started from a couple of weeks ago). All up it should be around 13Km, depending on whether we take any Francois-style 'short' cuts!

At Østmarkskapellet and Mariholtet it should be possible to grab a hot coffee and a waffle/bun (for those so inclined), but you're also welcome to bring a packed lunch and a thermos if that's your style.

The longterm weather forecast for Sunday isn't overly warm, but they're also not predicting rain. General common sense applies to what you'll need. Warm clothes and layers, a decent jacket and sturdy shoes/boots, some snacks, a camera if you want, and a bit of cash or a card if you want to buy some food. Should be about 4 - 5 hours.

We're looking forward to catching you guys on Sunday!

Well, home all all in one piece. You guys are hard core hikers! No one put off by more than a bit of swamp, a bit of adventure, tough uphills, some bush bashing (as those Aussies like to say) through a few short cuts, and a bit of a 'tiki tour' (as we Kiwis like to put it) through a valley full of trolls; but we got there in the end. We went a bit over our 15km target, I think Francois took the last tracking at 17.5, so a massive effort from all of you. Happy to lend someone my maps of nord- and østmarka or to meet up to plan another after Easter. I'm in the city over easter dog sitting for friends, so if someone fancies a easy walk (one of the dogs is quite old) around Akerselva then give me a shout. Again well done to everyone.

The last group out hit the Ellingsrud T-ban just on 5pm. So around 6 hours, including pitstops, breaks, etc.

Guys, sunday 11:30-12:00 am sounds much more realistic. I am sure people would like to rest and sleep longer. Maybe you can come over tonight to thursday drinks event "Thanks god it's thursday" at 20:00 and we can discuss it there?

If not, i know nice routes around Tonsenhagen - the meeting point could be the busstop of 31 bus "Tonsenhagen". Possibilities for 3-4 hours walk.

Another suggestion - T-ban stop "Voksenkollen" - going to Tryvannstua.

And a third suggestion - walking in the Nordmarka from T-ban stop "Grorud". I know all the routes quite well and would be happy to show around.

    Valentyna;)

Works for me! I won't be there tonight, I don't have any preferences regarding the hike.

Holy mackeral, Batman! Theres tons of you keen peeps up for a walk in the woods. So far I guess that Jennifer and I are meeting up on Thursday night to scope out a route, but do gimme a shout or come along if you want to have your say. Im considering more the 15 km end of the spectrum, given the number of stropwaffles I've been eating this last few days. Hope to catch some of you on Thursday, will update the route asap after that. Cheers - Kate
