All spaces have now been sold by Outdooraholics. Please see the comments section at the end of this page for details of any attendees selling their space on this trip (need to be of the same gender as we have all male and all female dorms in this hostel). The FAQ section below provides more details on the process of buying a space from someone:

We've secured exclusive use of a hostel that is set right on the waters edge with fabulous sea views to be enjoyed of the long sandy beach as the waves crash up to our breakfast room! Being a converted lifeboat house, you can't get much closer to the sea than this.

The hiking here is breath taking too - we've been 3 times in 12 months, more than any other weekend trip we run.

Can we beat the glorious sunny weekend we had here in Jan 2013:

Come and join us for a fantastic weekend and start 2014 as you mean to continue!

Weekend Description

The Gower Peninsula was the first area in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty and it’s easy to see why. Gower is an area that has attracted people for a long time and was where the worlds first human fossil was found (carbon dated back to 33,000 years ago)

We'll have a couple of picturesque and stunning coastal hikes on both Saturday and Sunday. Each hike has a varied landscape from dramatic and rugged cliffs, to long and dreamy sandy beaches and we’ll even pass the ruins of a Castle. As well as some of the best, Gower Peninsula has also won awards for having some of the cleanest beaches in Britain.

ITINERARY

Friday 3rd January

We have this hostel booked exclusively for our group so that we can fully enjoy and relax in it's breath-taking coastal setting, jutting out on a small rocky peninsula. If the sound of waves lapping on the shore is likely to keep you awake this is a trip to avoid!

Saturday 4th Jaunary

Saturday's hike: Port Eynon to Rhossili via Hillend (2 length options)

Distance: 9 or 11 miles (14 or 18km)
Ascent: 490m (for 9 mile version)
Rating: Medium/tough, some hills, a good level of fitness required.

Most of this linear coastal hike will be walking along the cliffs and in places beaches of the peninsula and we’ll finish up with a ridge walk with some far reaching views both to the sea and inland. We'll pass the tidal island of Worms Head and will take in Rhossili Down too (at 196m this is the highest point on the Gower)

After the hike we’ll head back to the hostel to get some food and enjoy our evening on the coast

Distance: 8 miles (12km)
Ascent: 370m
Rating: Medium, two main tiring hills

We shall explore a different but equally picturesque section of the coast again today with some lush vegetation. An 8 mile walk that will take us past cliffs, heavenly beaches and into a hidden valley to the ruins of Pennard Castle.

Only mad dogs and hardcore Outdooraholics would have defied the weather warnings...and it was well worth it :) Thanks to big G and little K it went like a well oiled surf board. Lots of laughs and slightly soggy bits.

Listen up folks! Can you hear me?
An Outdooraholics weekend never disappoints! I laughed (thank you, Rob for your great wit), nearly slipped into a river (thank you, Kuldeep for the rescue), and was faced with some very thought-provoking questions (thank you, Susana for keeping me challenged). Perfect! x
