Hike from Baker Beach to GGB

Hello!! Lately I had been hiking by myself from Bake beach to the GGB by the coastal trail and I would like to share the pain with some one else :P I'm not a pro at all, I'm tryin to be more active that's it, it's about 4.70 miles (total) in 2 hrs or so (I like to eat my breakfast at the GGB) that's my suggestion!

I just moved the location arrow to the spot near the table and benches (according to Google street view) and portable toilets by the beach access. Hopefully this helps. Thanks Ana.

The one with the portable toilets, I thought that was the main entrance because the baker beach sign, sorry about the confusion ;)

Oh, OK. I believe this is the South Lot (aka Gibson Road Lot) rather than the North Lot (aka Main Lot). It probably makes sense to start at the South Lot, meeting by the path to the beach to walk the full length. If needed, we can make a detour to the North Lot bathrooms along the way. Sound all right?

Which Baker Beach parking lot? There is a smaller lot directly at the end of Gibson Rd, and another larger lot just slightly further North (toward the bridge) at the end of Battery Chamberlain Rd. At what end of the lot? We may be a small group, so I want to be in the right place and not miss it.

This is still not clear. Do you mean the one that is closest to Lincoln and has portable toilets? Or, the larger one, in which you go up Battery Chamberlain Road? Here's a link to Google Maps: https://maps.google.co....

Glad you asked that Martin, because I was thinking it was the smaller, lower lot on Gibson since that is the one I always use. I look forward to Ana's answer.

I do like the new time. Mucho gracias! It gives me enough time to get some coffee and have a breakfast bar.

And Baker Beach stairs, I can muster, since the rest of the trek is not loose sand. :o)

lol yes I like to do the infamous stairs :) like I wrote I want to share the pain!!!!!

    January 24, 2013

  • Mira

If we're talking about the same thing, it could include the infamous sand stairs of Baker Beach. It's not for nothing that they're called stairs. Ana may have a different (read: better) approach in mind though.

Is not sand in the trail is more uplands and stairs, beautiful views! It's kind of tough I won't lie but I'll cheer on you, we can change it at 8am of that works better for all :)

Although this is super early for me, I am all about getting my butt in gear. But, how much of the hike is loose sand, along the beach? I do not do well with this. If it is more uplands, this is more to my liking, but I will likely be at the back. That fact doesn't bother me and I always catch up :o).

I love Land's ends that's my fav spot, great views!

    January 24, 2013

  • Mira

What a coincidence! I just did almost this same hike this past Saturday. I started at Land's end. It was spectacularly beautiful. There is a portion of the Coastal Trail that was closed for repairs. It looked like pretty extensive repairs, judging from the chain link fence. The Park Service re-routed people along the Batteries-to-Bluffs trail. Also beautiful but more up and down.

Hi Melissa, I take the coastal trail, is a lot of stairs but we can take it easy, also if you think is to much and you're not feeling like making it back, you can take the bus at the GGB ;)

I might be interested. I am rather out of shape, so I hope I can keep up. What route are you taking that the hike is 4.7 miles?
