I am a member of the Atlanta Science Tavern and was invited to give a talk next month about my professional work. I thought it might be a nice chance for us to meet and we can discuss future meetups you envision. If you sign up, showing up early with ensure you have a seat.
Yes, this club is for non-readers who wish they could read more, but enjoy books nonetheless. Life is busy but if the topics are of interest to you, join us for discussion. I select a book each from one of 5 or so topics each moth, and discuss intersections in thought, and how these books can help us make our lives better in real ways.
This book club is also for the veracious reader, only satisfied when engaged in the pursuit of knowledge. A mind can be enlightened with the synthesis of diverse ideas. Join Outliers Decatur Book Club if you are ready to discover what it is like to apply your genius in ways that both transcend your self-concept while acquiring additional perspectives that connect you with others. Ultimately, the goal is to use our capacity to improve the lives of others, and to strengthen our connection with our community as part of achieving our full potential.
Sure you can live a thousand lives watching TV, but books make you think in new ways. I read non-fiction exclusively, although that is just a personal preference at the moment. Almost every book I read makes a huge impression on me. I hope the diverse subjects we will discuss will be interesting to you!
Plainly, this book club is for brilliant minds humbly preoccupied with self-improvement through the acquisition of additional forms of intelligence, from the informational to the emotional. Every month, as many as five books are suggested covering a broad range of non-fiction, or choose your own! Topics span the spectrum from social and physical sciences to personal discovery. Subjects cover history, ecology, infectious disease, medicine, social psychology, cognitive science, philosophy, business and management, behavioral economics, political science, biographies and current events. In a single 2-hour meeting, members will discuss the highlights of each source of literature. Compelling themes are sought in effort to challenge our beliefs as we apply a balance of humor and critical thinking towards the development of a deeper sense of personal meaning and purpose.
Free thought, humility, emotional intelligence are a must for those of us on course to transcend the human experience. This group isn't for know-it-alls, but for the kind of person that habitually questions society's commonly held assumptions in a fun social setting.
Curious? Join me for a cup of coffee and prepare to begin a journey of self-discovery and personal revelation. Learn how to read the Matrix that most folks take for granted as "reality", and uncover alternative approaches to living you may never before have considered.
I will set up the first meet up after we have acquired a neural net of 10 scholars.
